Jonjo Shelvey is willing to play in any position - be it up front, in defence or even in goal - as long as it means he can play for Liverpool.

The 20-year-old has already been tested in a variety of roles by manager Brendan Rodgers so far this season.

He led the line against Young Boys at Anfield in the Europa League, played down the left flank against Southampton on Saturday and has operated in both attacking and defensive central-midfield positions for the Reds.

And Shelvey explained to the official Liverpool monthly magazine: "If you play me at left-back, right-back or even in goal I'd be happy because it's Liverpool. I'd play anywhere for this club.

"I've always been able to get into the box. I should've scored a few more in the last few weeks too. I've got into some good positions but not put the ball in the net. But I think the goals will come.

"I want to stay here for a long time and to be a regular in the team. To do that I know the manager has to be able to rely on me.

"If you look at lads like Stevie and Carra, they did it when they were my age - they lived up to their billing. I'm trying to do the same. When Liverpool made an offer, accepting it was the easiest choice I have ever had."

Shelvey began his footballing career as part of Arsenal's youth ranks in 2002 before moving on to West Ham and then Charlton, where he played professionally for two seasons.

At Anfield, the midfielder has played 59 games, taking his career total to over 100 despite his tender age of 20.

"I know a lot of my appearances came in the lower leagues but I've played over a century of senior games," he said. "That's nothing compared to some players but it's good experience. I see myself as someone who can help the younger lads.

"When it comes to selecting players to go in the middle for possession exercises at training, it's usually the youngest that goes in first. For the last few years that's always been me. Not any more thankfully. Now it's Raheem instead.

"I can see why people imagine [making the step up to the first team] can be intimidating, but I'd say it's exciting more than anything else.

"What's important is that you don't get carried away. I won't lie - it can go to your head. If it does, you need others to keep you right. I had good pros like Matt Holland, Nicky Baily, Deon Burton and Christian Dailly to look out for me [at Charlton].

"Eventually there comes a point when you need to stand on your own two feet, but that kind of support is very technical. The young lads have come in and done well and the rest of us are there to help them if or when they require help."

I really don't rate him. He needs to work on his first touch and more energy from him

He is a tough one to really kind of grasp where he is at. Some games brilliant, some games goes missing. Not sure if it is youth ( although he is what 22 now?) or just needs to find consistency?

I agree that he needs to improve his first touch and get fitter/sharper but I'm hopeful this will improve in time.

Only 20 still. His best position is a free role in AM for sure.

    This^.

I'm probably one of the only posters on here who really like and rate both Shelvey and Henderson as footballers. I still maintain they'll be very important for us in the next few years.

this is fluff... if you think "it's liverpool so i'll play anywhere" is real then lets stick hi mleft full for the reserves/u21s for a year and see how quick he moans then!

    utter rubbish that.

plus i think honeslty he does think he's it even if he talks of the danger sof it cos if he does one or two good things in a game for the res tof it he's off being all sloppy and making errors living on the back of the earlier good work.

He needs to be a lot more consistent and play at a higher standard. I hope he does do i think he's going to develop into a sub myself.

No. He is saying he will play where he is told to play and do it with pride because he is wearing the red jersey not "I'll take anyone's position"

This is exactly the sort of players and attitude we want at our club in future so why get on his case about saying the right things?

I rate him pretty highly, except for one aspect: his tackling. More than once he's had red card worthy tackles, and he's lucky to only have the amount of red cards he's picked up. He needs to either stop sliding or learn how to do it.

i don't beleive it thats the thing, my point is i think he's jsut saying it to gain favour. the reality is walcott and sturridge are pushing to leave where they are as they see big money moves coming and they are quoted as saying they want to play a certain way.

Do you think if we told shelvey like downing he's now and LB he'd not moan? I don't beleive it.

Attitude is shown on the pitch week in and week out not in print. examples that i always use is alonso and hyppia. when he plays like them i'll say its not fluff.. when he plays as sloppy as he did v sot'on last weekend at times and then says that? I'll call it like i see it.

Look it's in a context of him playing false 9 in the europa and now suarez is out so speculation is he'll play it in the prem. My opinion is he'll be a sub type of player not a guy you trust week in and week out. when he does it consistently he'll get picked in his best position cos he'll force the manager to get the best out there. while he's so inconsistent he'l lbe o nthe bench and playing europa. simple.

I'm not saying he'll flip to being a moaner like sturridge but i'm willing to bet he'll moan a lot more than downing is (which actually dissappoints me) if you drop him for a 17 year old or stick him left full in every outing you'd think a 28 year old would flip. downing doesn't care it seems so is that what i'm saying about shelvey? no. I think saying the right thing and performing the right way are two entirely separate things and beleive me I work with enough spoofers in my job here to say i'd rather have the performers that moans and calls you on stuff than the PC bullcrap artist who says the right things and does nothing.

My impression of henderson is he'll end up a midfielder you can trust but in a role thats deeper once he learns it right.

I think you may be reading too much into it MITO, I think it is just a player saying that he is happy to be at Liverpool and will do what he can to improve and prove that he deserves a place in the team.

I think Shelvey and Henderson will become top players in about 2-3 seasons the same way Lucas took a few seasons to develop.

He's got the touch of a rapist & is a bit manic for me at present, but he's young & enthusiastic & if marries that with a good attitude in training & works at his game, he could go on to make it at the top level of the game. However, he's far from there yet & if he thinks for 1 minute that he is, then he'll be no better than mediocre.

It's all good and well saying it in an interview, let's see it on the pitch.Since his loan spell at Blackpool he has come on really good but there is always room for improvement

I like him and see him getting even better then he already is
