Absolute ****ing disgrace. Those ****ing animals should be locked up for the rest of their lives. All he was doing was helping to officiate a match. I don't think he was a qualified referee, just a parent who was doing something he enjoyed. And this was just a Sunday League match. Does amateur football mean so much to some people that they are prepared to attack innocent people. The thing is, something like thus could easily happen in England.

Disgusting that things like this happen over football. The big question will be whether they meant to kill him. It would be less disgusting, but still pretty disgusting, if they only intended to hurt him. Generally, when it's just kicking and punching, there is no intention to kill.

Oh Joe......Sorry mate.....they should know what their actions are likely to do and should not be allowed to plead "We didn't mean to kill him". To me that is a cop out.........When you go to give someone a beating there is always a chance that you will kill him or her. A blow to exactly their weakest spot is just as likely to kill as not.
There are hundreds of spots all over your body that given the right conditions and the right type of blow can kill. There probably is about 10 spots that would be a definite kill. Less likely if you are using your fist true...but start using your feet and the chances of a kill increase quite dramatically.
True they were angry and probably in a temper but add in a number and you have got tragedy written all over the incident!

Well, the punishment would still be pretty severe due to their recklessness, but intention is important. A man who shoots another in the head is worse than a man who unintentionally kills another with a punch. The outcome is the same, but the mentality is important if you consider that justice is not the same thing as vengeance. The latter man is probably less of a danger to society than the former. That's why we have manslaughter charges.

As for this incident, the attackers are scum, but the victim was alive when they'd finished the beating. I'd be very surprised if it's intentional murder.

More info: The man was apparently beaten twice. The first time he was beaten, he eventually got back up and made it back to the clubhouse, where has was dragged onto the ground and beaten again. I'm not sure if it was by the same people. They apparently left him lying there for some time, and he was still alive at this point. He apparently collapsed later at home and went into a coma.

If true, it's almost certainly not intentional murder, but is extremely malicious. The sentencing will be pretty complicated, and it'll be difficult to determine how much damage each of the assailants dealt, and which people directly dealt the blow(s) that caused his death. All of the assailants, however, are responsible for leaving him in that state and neglecting to get him medical attention. They all presumably had the chance to save his life and didn't. Some will probably get less harsh sentences than others, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a life sentence or two in there.

Oh, I should probably add that I didn't get any of this info from an actual news source. It's mostly word of mouth.

They will probably be charged with manslaughter.

The injured Spurs fan is now out of hospital.....amazed that the charges in that case were not attempted murder...death is the likely result if you stab somone in head and thigh. Although beating someone up is less likely to result in death, there have been too many cases of people being kicked in the head with the perpetrator believing that there will be no permanent damage. The brain is delicate and is the core of who that person is...damage can be devastating. There is a difference between a drunken one-on-one punch up and a group picking on one man and kicking him when he is down. Cowardice.

I actually witnessed a murder last year. Man queing in Sainsbury's got punched once on the side of the head went down like he was poleaxed and cracked his head open on the floor. Never regained consciousness. What made it worse it was mistaken identity and the murdered man was unknown to his killer. Culprit got charged with manslaughter. Just shows what one blow in anger can do!

No need for it though. He was just officiating a Sunday League football match. Intention to kill or not, still a ****ing thuggish thing to do, and the pricks deserve to be sent down.

If someone's not expecting it and gets punched in the head then it's only going to end badly.

Absolutely. They'll all get a few years, and the ones who are determined to have caused the death may get life sentences. Those who call for the death sentence at a time like this (or any time in my opinion) are ****ing moronic though. Even Texas wouldn't execute these people.

If the assailants were black and the deceased was white with a daughter, I have no doubt they would be pursuing the death penalty.
