I thought so, my cousin (lived on 5th Ave) was caught stealing chocolate bars from there, when she was about 10.

She had hid them in her knickers. Her strange walk must of given her away.

But it was a big scandal, in the family, at the time.

Oh the shame it brought........
 
There was loads of open jars of sweets along the wall behind the counter and apperently me and my cousin (its always the cousins) would run up and down taking whichever sweets we wanted the only difference I was a year older and knew which ones I liked and he didnt so use to put it in his mouth and if he didnt like it, it would go back in the jar (we got a few bollocking for that)
 
Grew up brilliantly happy late 50's early 60's in Perth St, Chants Ave. wouldn't swap any of the memories or adventures for a gold clock...beautiful time.
I just love the Hull people and would like to move back one day, but don't see it happening.

it was albemarle youth club lot that went in star and garter Mel.. i use to knock about with jacko whose mum and dad owned the blue bell inn in market place and we would swipe a couple of bottles of spirits and buy coke all night in Star andGarter and Tonys....get pissed and try and get in scamps..

other people i knew where Wolfy, Fez , Macko. Fat George and his brother , Deano...a fat twat called Ricky , Alex S , Ray J who i am sure had a fly tattooed on his dick in arthurs for a bet...Usually i was always with Jacko in the cellar of the blue bell inn....we both went to Trinity House for a year but got booted out in the end...

When i was a nipper on OPE i had to avoid the OPE reds and the smelly hippys but when Ray Harvey took a shine to me i was safe....
he give me my first acid tab in brickhouse when i was 13 and i started to go to that disco in the church on OPE, Voodoo disco maybe ?

i went in gothenburg coffee club / drinking den one night and woke up in the seamans mission in bed with a 5 foot prossie....i was maybe 15
i cant even remember how i got there or if we did anything as i was on acid at the time....

nooo, i have still got my red harrington Mel also a Black one..

Red one is an original , black one is a copy.

Didnt have a crombie but i did have a sheepskin that i aquired from Millets while Jacko got one of those smelly bloody afgan coats
for some reason...dam thing stunk even more when it rained and got wet...

Happy days Mel but for sure we all have lots more happy days to come in the future..

poor woman i met when i was having chemo who i kept in touch with just got her results
today from her check up mri scan and her bowl cancer is back with a vengance , and its in her liver and lungs
as well... just found out this afternoon..

Never mind just maybe they can sort her out again

Just have fun everyone and loads of good days ok....
 
I used to deliver papers down 21st Ave when I was a kid, I also used to stay at my aunties down there quite a lot, which was more 5th ave end.

Many of the Tigers players played golf regularly at Springhead .I played with several including McSeveny who was the fastest golfer I.ve ever seen play.We regularly completed a full 18 holes in close to 2 hours ,the little sod ran between every shot.Ken Harrison was a member there and lived just across the road on Willerby Road backing on to where I lived.I had a couple of games with Paddy ***an (he transferred to Man City) and played inter club golf with Jackie Major both at Springhead and Horsea Golf Club.

I was born 1950 on Hall Road, (in a house, not the road!), moved to Westgarth Ave prefabs opposite what we used to call "The Dump", we used it for the Street Bonfire every year. Was a paper boy for Oxtoby's on Endilke Lane just as the Orchard Park estate was being built. Remember going to the cinema there every Saturday Matinee, getting pattie 'n chips on way home...
Moved to Risby Grove, a "proper house"!
Attended Hall Road Infants right thro to Senior School, (same buildings), Going to the shops on the Quadrant to spend my dinner money on sweets, 4 for a penny!

Used to play along Barmy Drain, around the bridge opposite the little police station, got wet and muddy numerous times and a clout round the ear for my troubles lol

Sorry to hear about your friend, you must of had personal, upbeat and sad news from the other patients you met, whilst recieving your treatment.

I literally work 50 metres to a Cancer Hospital (Christies), and see patients coming and going all day.

You seem to have a very positive outlook, which is fantastic.

I hope you have loads of good days.
 
Initially lived on Sutton Park, although I was too young to have any memories of living there.

Moved to Skirlaugh. Great memories.

Running/biking to double arches (that's not code), playing football at every given opportunity; watching/playing rugby with the Skirlaugh RLFC players (when they actually played at Skirlaugh).

Trespassing on land and getting chased by farmers.

Rope swings, and latterly experimenting with girls in the woods near to the park.

When born lived down Hawthorn Ave (1967-71) I remember the floodlights lighting my bedroom up on night games! Our families lived in a pretty close community in them days and remember my dad , cousins and uncle all used to go to the boxing day game , then back to our house for a bit of a party! I moved onto Bransholme in 1971 to the maisonettes and went to Cleeve Primary School, before moving again in 1976 to one of the first built houses on North Bransholme. I attended Dulverton Junior school (1976-80), before going to Hull Grammar School (1980-83), with the likes of Citys Nicky Brown and Yorkshire Cricketter Mark Robinson in my class. Bought my own place in 1992 just off Beverley High Road, and still live there now!
