As in I spent several months living and working there reviewing security procedures and standards for a number of companies. Never wanted to get my money and run so much in my life (and i've done tours of Afghanistan and Iraq and also been to several African countries such as Congo, Sierra Leone and seen more hospitable people).

 

I take it you've never been to Gipton, Holbeck, Beeston etc?

Every last one of 'em and quite similar to downtown Kabul.

 

They're not terrible. Decent amounts of small level drug dealing but apart from that they're mainly white working class families just getting on with their lives. I've patrolled Kabul and apart from the insurgents the people are quite nice they'd give the clothes of their backs to say thank you even if they were in extreme poverty.

 

Can't say I've ever been to Kabul but my mate works out there.

He reckons it's an absolute khazi full of backward in breds. Bit like the areas I mentioned.

He's spent the last 9 years either in Afghan or Iraq in private security and was in 2nd REP(5 years)prior to that and 3 PARA (3 years)prior to joining the Legion.

May I ask who you patrolled the streets of Kabul with?

Funny how Hull's poorer areas are **** holes and Leeds' less than desirable areas are full of decent folk just getting by.
