January is a bad time to sign players - any that become available tend to be at hugely inflated prices. Generally speaking it is difficult to get good signings in January because any good players at a club doing well (like Fellani) are unlikely to be sold as it will damage the selling clubs good run unless you offer stupid money. Any good players at clubs not doing well are few and far between. The only good winter signings I remember spurs making were Defoe from west ham and then from pompey - and Kaboul from pompey - both selling clubs were in deep financial ****e at the time. The big jan signings in recent years have been very problematic - Carroll and Torres are good examples - desperate buys at massively over inflated prices. You've had 3 poorish results (although in my opinion a draw at everton is a good result) since caning us - that was our 3rd successive loss - AVB (according to the media) was on his way out yet now we are in 4th after 3 wins on the bounce. We are both similar as teams...not as bad as the doom mongers suggest and not as good as we'd like. you'll hit a good run and the doomies will scuttle off until next time
Sure your best chance of getting a good deal in January is to go after players who only have six months left on their contracts. Llorente and Huntelarr both immediately spring to mind. Also the club should probably consider that missing out on a Champions League place will mean missing out on 30-40 Million in revenue.
The main difference when I look at both sides, is that although they are similar, with Spurs you can pinpoint Defoe and Bale as main sources of goals. With us it is somewhat more difficult. Until the problem is rectified we will continue to struggle. I would happily be proved wrong.
It's a tough one. Deep down everyone knows he's quality. But something isn't write. Thats the view from outside anyway.
My personal view is that Wenger needs to spend some money on two or three top quality players and he needs to change his formation to suit the players we have at the moment.
