With Gerrard 32 years of age now, in the next few years the captains arm bad will inevitably be passed to some one else. But who?

Lucas - The obvious choice really, if he doesn't become injury prone he's the ideal captain, great role model on and off the pitch and can boss a game.

Agger - Whisper it quietly but Agger has actually stayed fit for a good amount of games now, he'd be another good choice and personally I'd like him to be captain. I mean, he got YNWA tattood on his knuckles.

Reina - Not been at his best but he always seems to be mentioned when this topic comes out, personally, I don't like keepers as captains

Suarez - The media would love that <laugh>

Lucas for me, with his performances dominating the game. Agger is a good shout though. Reina looks a lot better since his absence, although keepers shouldn't be captain.

  3. Out of that list, I'd pick Lucas. However, Agger is the only one with high level experience as a captain (with Denmark). If Gerrard was to play for another season or two, what about some of the youngsters such as Wisdom or Kelly? Gerrard got the armband at a very young age so why not...?

Would have to be Lucas but I agree it would be nice to see a local lad get the armband. Maybe Kelly in a few years time?

The thing with Kelly and Wisdom is, right now they're not first choice players, I've always thought a captain should be one of them first names on the team sheet. All hypothetical of course, it could all change over the next season or two.

Lucas or Agger? I think Agger would love to be captain where I would like Lucas to concentrate on his game and not have to shoulder the responsibility so Agger for me.

  7. I agree but nor should it guarantee that player a starting spot. This is an issue that England have had for years IMO <ok>

Interesting stat on optajoe was that Lucas made the most forward passes (48) on Saturday than anyone in the prem. Might not have connectd with them all but it was nice to see someone look up and try, not necessarily a hollywood ball, but a difficult ball that would pay off.

Agger for me. Only my opinion, but I prefer a CB to have it.

Lucas' stats from the weekend are very promising.

    Anyway...

I think the order should be Agger, Reina, Lucas, Suarez, Kelly.

Agger is a captain already and plays outfield in a central position - he can see what's going on.

Reina is the experienced choice but does play in goal.

Lucas has captained us before, and would do so again and do it well.

Suarez could if anything lead by example in terms of goals/performance. Obviously his temperament is question; would captaincy solve his issues?

    Kelly is a local - he'd play like he's ten-foot tall.

Biggest issue with 3 of those is how long can they stay healthy and on the field? I agree though.

Skrtel should be in the pole. He has captained us before and captains his national team.

Personally I say Lucas captain. Suarez and Skrtel as two vice captains.

The band will just continue to get passed around though if they can't stay healthy, then it becomes a case of who is the actual captain?

Don't undervalue Skrtel tbh, I'd put him high on the list after Lucas and Agger. Despite the fact he looks like a thug even the MMA would ban for illegal fighting moves, he's probably got a softer side (enjoys feeding kittens and knitting) and would be a great role model for the younger guys.

I would love to give it to Luis - captains Uruguay and I think he was the captain at Ajax.

Leads by example but he is also quite vocal. He gets the crowd going with the way he plays and we need an inspirational figure. The only problems could be his temperament, language (still learning) and his relationship/reputation with referees.
