I'm more than happy with this draw. I would have preferred Alfreton though, having never seen us play them before. I don't see why people are upset about Orient fans' comments about us. Sure, the insults about Hull being a dump bring to mind the words 'people', 'glasshouses', 'shouldn't', 'throw', and 'stones', but an away game at almost any team in the Championship would be a **** one for them. Like many City fans I don't know why we don't go for it in the FA Cup. We're miles away from having a team that could compete for survival in the Premier League, and promotion would be an expensive 12-month nightmare just like it was last time. So why not try and emulate those second tier sides who've made it to Cup finals in recent years: Millwall in 2004, and Cardiff in 2008 and 2012. We were cheated out of a Wembley semi-final with Chelsea by Arsenal in 2009, and that's the best we've achieved in my lifetime. I'd like to see us better that. I've no doubt whatsoever though that Bruce will insist he'd love a Cup run, before playing our reserves and getting us knocked out so he can concentrate on having us achieve the fantastic feat of finishing about 10th.
money isn't it? the PL is everything and in europe the ****ing CL is everything. cups like the FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA & CWC have been devalued by TV and armchair fans, foreign so-called fans wanting safe, glitzy football.. a proper hell for leather, mud and studs battle with Orient where both teams actually give a **** and want to win a trophy is what it should be about.. rant over.
I'm more than happy with Orient, it was a regular fixture back in the day and we haven't played them for years.
I wish you weren't right Agreed, some of my first memories as a City fan are of drab games at Fer Ark in the pissing rain against teams like Orient. I've no doubt I'll thoroughly enjoy seeing us go head-to-head again. It'll probably help me appreciate the last 8/9 years a bit more too.
Orient are among my early memories of watching City. The play off semi final in 2001 comes to mind, as does a 3-0 win at the KC in our first promotion season.
I remember that 3-0 win. It coiuld have been about 10-0 if our strikers could stay onside, we went through on goal a ridiculous number of times late on but kept being offside.
I want an away draw to a prem london team (fulham or chelsea preferably) but I'm happy to have an easy-ish tie... although we often **** it up in the cup... a little run would be nice.
Spot on Chazz. Every manager at every club will say they're going all out to win. And they will be,kind of. Its a good chance to play the likes of Cairney and Hobbs. Prossy can start alongside Mclean ect.
Time for sweet revenge. I'd recently been playing as Orient on the new FIFA on career made, that was until I got annoyed with it when Yeovil scored against me and I threw the pad across the room. It broke. I will not play it again. We must beat them as some kind of catharsis for my good self.
Sentimental for me even though i am now miles away , the first match i remember was the 3 rd Round FA Cup v Leyton Orient, who were First Division then, in 1963,so it will be 50 years. We lost 2-0 after drawing there 1-1.It was a bad winter the game being postponed many times.Doug Clarke,Jock Davidson,Garvey, and a young Chris Chilton.
Last time we played them was our first full season at the KC - Seems that it has come full circle in a way.
I see what you did there.... It's going to be a good one, it's my birthday so I reckon I'll be going down, then get pissed up after the game.
Thankfully its saturday 5th jan against Orient. A low key with no outside interest of this game. Very much under the radar this one. Phewwwwwwwww
....and they have the cheek to call Hull the grimiest place on earth. Ever been to Hackney and Leytonstone lately.? MAKES BRANDSHOLME LOOK LIKE BUCK HOUSE. The game where Amos gets another start. Yes it will be all the fringe players with some kids. Shame Liam Cooper is now Cup tied @ Chesterfield but maybe Conor Townsend can get a start in this game. ... my team for this one would be : - Amos Hobbs Faye Dawson(c) Rosenoir McKenna Olifinjana Townsend Cairney in the hole McLean Proschwitz .............. should be more than good enough to beat Leyton Orient. imo subs bench:- a mixture of seniors and kids. Give Max Clark, Lewis Clarkson and Margets 3 of the spots though.
Actually, parts of Hackney are very posh and bohemian nowadays, the area around the Broadway and London Fields is all gastro pubs and art galleries.
My husband tells me this match was the first he saw in London after changing jobs from working in Lancaster. It was in February and indeed a bad winter. He was subsequently in London for 3 years before emigrating.
Not the Hackney i remember seeing but needed improving but my views are very much a case of keep moving. Then again compared to Leytonstone.......
