Another typical modern LFC performance, really. Dominated the game, created the most chances and lost the game. I think their's not much we can really learn from the game that we don't already know. Anyhow, despite the result I thought we were superb today and there wasn't a player who had a bad game in a LFC shirt. I was particularly impressed with the movement from the front 3 in the first half, I see a lot of people criticizing Borini but what we have in him is fantastic movement, you can tell off the ball he's a hardworking clever player, the way he creates space for other players with his movement alone is something that Carroll could never give us, I feel once he get's his first goal we could get a decent return from him. Allen, again another solid performance from him, he recycles the possesion well but he knows what is the right pass, he doesn't pass back for the sake of passing back, he plays it back and moves in to the space to get a better option going forward, he has a fantastic footballing brain and I think so far the £15m is fully justified. The Decisions. Shelvey's red card- It was a wreckless challenge, and you can see why the ref has given it. But like has already been discussed it's about consistency, RVP had a similar challenge which was arguably just as dangerous, and surely Evans should of seen red too? In all honesty, in such an important game on such an emotional day I thought it was poor officiating, I thought the ref should of pulled Shelvey aside, told him to calm down and booked him. The best refs always don't send the player off unless it is 100% justified. Penalty claims- Suarez should of had a penalty, their was clear contact and Evra played none of the ball, admittedly it would of been soft but I feel if it was any other LFC player it would of been a penalty. As for United's penalty, very, very soft. Valencia was already on his way down and he was very much looking for it, there was next to no contact. Overall I thought the ref was poor, he just didn't get a hold of the game and manage the occasion. It wasn't just the big decisions, he was consistently not letting the game flow at all. Conclusion.. From a Liverpool fans perspective, disappointing. We bossed the midfield, looked solid at the back but as usual a lack of fire power really hindered us. It was encouraging though and the performance was arguably as good as the one against City. We have bad luck, but we can't keep using that as an excuse to keep being in the same position. Instead of ruing the decisions and the mistakes we need to start learning from them, there's no way this is just luck anymore, their has to be something fundamentally wrong. Also, both sets of supporters were superb today and were very respectful, the gestures by Man United at the start of the game were commendable and were gratefully appreciated. Much respect to them.
Was Evans who brought down Suarez. And add two dodgy penalties at West Brom, several other blatant penalties that Suarez was denied in games against Sunderland, Norwich, Spurs and Stoke, a stamping on Suarez's chest that the ref SAW but allowed against Stoke, and THAT perfectly legal goal disallowed against the ****e after a linesman called Bennett (surely related to Steve Bentref himself) consulted with the Gladwys St Coin and Bottle Throwers before deciding to disallow the goal four seconds after the ball hit the back of the net, and you have a true picture f our refereeing attrocities. But we are where we deserve to be.
