Evening all. Given our current place, can anyone think of players who went onto bigger and better things at the time? Coleman, Des Lyttle and Andy Legg spring to mind. But for every one of those there are a few turkeys. Just wondering. It must be odd for recent former players who tried to go onto bigger and better things like Duffy, Trundle, Pratley et al, looking back and thinking "I used to play for them"
Didn't Robinson want to wait to see if Leeds went up before he went to them? Cheeky beggar! Lost in the playoffs to Doncaster while the Swans got promoted. Priceless
I don't mean to sound sanctimonious, and I don't know what it is, but players just do not seem to do very well when they leave our club. We got rid of DeVries and got the guy that was keeping him out of the Dutch team ffs! The grass isn't always greener boys. Rodgers and Pratley are both leading contenders in the "Egg on your face" competition though. Not that I have anything against them both, they were both great servants to the club, but come on, it is a bit funny
Sam Ricketts done ok, apart from that I'm at a loss. I have to admit to having an evil grin when I look at championship reports and seeing that Pratley and De Vries hardly start for their new 'bigger' clubs. They'll never admit it while they're still there, but they must feel that they dropped a bit of a bollock leaving the mighty Swans. As brilliant as both were for us, I can't see either getting in to our current squad and I think that De Vries in particular done us a favour as we would never have discovered the much better Vorm had he stayed and may well have struggled last season.
Listen Yid, Fcuk off will you , I fcuking hate agreeing with a Spud! please log in to view this image
with hj and the board at the controls i think if our club fell in sh*t we would get up smelling of roses
I met Robinson just before he left. He was at his kids party on a muddy assault course where I used to work. The guy was swinging off ropes and getting stuck right in. As he left my old boss said 'How's the leg Andy?' and robinson then put on a well fake limp. He was supposed to be injured but turns out he was faking to get a move. Mug. Aside from that little tale I agree that our ex-players can't seem to get going at other clubs. de Vries made the biggest obvious mistake for me. Why go to be a bench warmer for another Prem side when you were 100% first choice at the Swans. Again, Mug. de Vries and Tremmel have proved fantastic aquisitions to replace him and are both better players. Kudos to De Vries though for that dummy he pulled off under pressure from a Cardiff striker a couple of years back. I think that caulker has done well, though for every Caulker there's a Siggy not quite doing it at a bigger club. Talking of players leaving (or being eyed up by other clubs) we need to get Michu on another long term contract right now. I know he has only just joined but he is so integral to our play that we need to offer the guy 6 years and double his money. I reckon that this is a once in a lifetime kind of player and HJ needs to tie him down. Break the bank (but just this once). Hell, even sell all the deadwood players just to fund his new wages.
there has been hundreds of players who went on to better things over the years. don't forget we have been in the old 4th division for years and have only been at the top twice. many players who have moved on over the years made the right choice for them at the time, It was not always about money like it is today and we could lose a few at the end of the season due to being offered a much better contract than we can offer..... that's how it works and not because the individual loves it in Swansea....If the price is right a player will play anywhere. This is where the manager and his scouts earn their money by replacing players who move on with new players. I dont want it any other way it makes football more exciting...
Feeling sorry for litle Joe at the mo, he didn't look happy at the Liberty, and I've said it before but there seems to be a lot of players having a go at each other, at his new club. Gerrard always seems to be moaning at him, and he was substituted on the week end , doesn't bode well for the lad I'm afraid!
Agreed FFS but he will come good for them in time. He needs an arm around the shoulder from Gerrard rather than the shouting but he has to adapt there. He made his bed etc. I wish him well though as he is a tidy player. He's always welcome back here for £2-3m hehe.
Abso agree steve , but I don't think Gerrard will be doing much of that anytime soon as his own performance is coming more and more under scrutiny and it looks like sometimes if he is trying to deflect attention on to someone else. I really hope for Joe's sake that it doesn't damage him confidence wise ( as he's still one of ours really ).
