We don't have the squad to compete across all competitions. We should focus on getting top 4 and winning the CC.
Our fixtures in January could be insane. Jan 1st - Southampton (A) Jan 5th - Swansea City FA Cup 3rd round (A) Jan 9th - Semi final of the League cup if we beat Bradford (First Leg) Jan 13th - Man City (H) Jan 20th - Chelsea (A) Jan 23rd - Second leg of the League cup semi-final Jan 26th - 4th round of FA Cup if we beat Swansea Jan 30th - Liverpool (H) Like I said, insane.
At least when Wenger looks at that possible fixture list in January he will know the importance of buying new players to cope with it. We have the money, so let's do it!!! Knowing Arsenal, we will probably cruise through those games, when we expect them to crash and burn. Just like they are the doing the opposite this month.
How come teams will play the reverse against another team before they play a 19th different team? If that makes sense
It's always been like that in the PL. We play West Ham again this season, before facing Newcastle who we have not played against yet this season.
Whatever happens between now and January, we definitely need to strengthen. A thread bare squad has cost us so many times before, like you say, we have the cash now, so let's spend it
As I discussed with SJW10 we need A proper DM/CM (Arteta isn't one and he's being wasted there; Coq and Frimpong aren't ready) A LW (Gerv is cack ATM and Pod is wasted here(He should play up front); Oxo is in bad form too) A RW (If Theo leaves or not; Competition is good) A Foward (Giroud is good, but we also need a different option)
Agree with that, maybe not so much on the LW. I think Gervinho when on form is good there, we've got Oxo coming through too and dare I mention it - Arshavin too . . . DM is an absolute priority for me. In all the games we've struggled in it's been because we've allowed teams to much time to build out of DF and in MF, there is no pressure on the ball and no closing down. We need a player who can tackle and win the ball back. Frimpong could become this player, but as you say, he's not ready yet. Also agree that we need another striker, I like Giroud but he can't do it all on his own and we need somebody to replace RVP - a clinical striker who thrives on finding the net. I think the time is coming to an end where we can say that we've not been able to afford the players we need. The board have made it clear that we're in a healthy financial position - so credit to them for that, if we had of gone down the spend and bust route, we could have been ****ed. But now, with the new Emirates deal in place too, we need to reinforce this squad with top quality players in these positions. If we don't we could find that our best players now are wanting out in a couple of seasons.
Oxo is out of form but I still expect him to come good. Gervihno on from is deadly, but he is frustrating. Arshavin has moments, but I think he's off soon.
Looks like we are holding fire until the January window is closed. If no REAL quality arrives , theres gonna be some pi$$ed fans for sure. Its about depth too remember , its no good selling a few and buying a few , that dont make you any stronger . Get rid of some of the deadwood , but make sure THEY are replaced too.
My first reaction was "Are you ****ting me?" Though it might be better for our league form if we lose to them rather than against United or Chelsea in the quarter finals. Right now I'd settle for the much maligned trophy that is 4th place in the league.
