And there is another record at stake here ... Newcastle United have never lost five games on the bounce in the Premier League.

So, having lost the previous four, a Newcastle defeat on Monday is unthinkable.

Alan Pardew: "I wouldn't say defeat tomorrow is unthinkable, no, I don’t think so.

“I think it’s a possibility with the opposition we’ve got and obviously we’ve lost four games.
“Somebody said to me that we haven’t lost four in a row for four years. I think there’s a few stats you could throw at us that probably don’t look very nice at the moment. You can pick any one you like.
“We have got circumstances that are a little bit unusual. I think we’ve got nine senior players missing, and for any Premier League team that’s a blow.
“These are tough times but that doesn’t mean we want that (record) round our neck, for sure.
“So it’s very important that we keep our heads, and play to our gameplan and play football.
“Sometimes the enjoyment of managing is about inspiring players.
“You know, I look at the training ground and I think our guys are in good shape considering what’s gone on here with the injuries that we’ve suffered.
“We’ve lost a lot of quality and flair in the team. It is a problem but we have to focus on what we’ve got, and not bleat about it.
“I don’t really want to go on about it. It is what it is, and we have to get a result with the team we’ve got.
"We’ve got a side that performed well at Stoke, and we’re going to attack the game.
“All we can do is lean on the Stoke performance and take that into Wigan. If we play as well as that, I think we can get a positive result, for sure.
“How important it is is difficult to analyse, but this is a big match, I don’t shy away from that. I think we all know that there’s a lot of pressure riding on the game.
“We’re not going to hide and put our heads in the sand.”

if we did fail to win on Monday the pressure will really be ramped up on Pards I fear.

Doesn't want to go on about injuries yet he mentions it three times in one interview <laugh>

Certainly will mate, anything other than a win I don't see how anyone could argue that we aren't in a relegation battle, hopefully it won't come to that. I have a feeling Cisse is about to hit another purple patch.

Don't really see how you can lose 5 on the bounce, each one of which probably ones he had picked as wins before the campaign, and expect to resume managerial duties the next day, to be honest. Especially considering West Ham, Swansea and Wigan would all be home games...

I think he's lucky not to be under more pressure than he is now, but due to respect he gained last season, poor candidates for his job, and people desperate not to sack a manager every year, he's escaped a lot of (probably deserved) flack.

His interviews last season were pretty good, but it was easy while things were going well, this season I think he's making mistakes that are really infuriating when the team is playing so poorly. Suggesting before the Stoke game that nobody had been trying, and that they were out to prove they could do something, only to lose woefully again, really sums up just what a right-off this season already is... As long as we don't go down.

Best not lose the 5th one then, I don't think we will.

Seeing Pardew say this, it's obvious we'll somehow be fighting to hold onto a draw as time winds down again.... He'll be fighting not to get a loss instead of trying to win again. That sucks

Needs must at present. We need to win. How that comes about is seconday for me. I'd like us to start again and go back to basics. We did well last season by building from a solid base and making sure we don't concede first and foremost. The nice stuff came later. Obviously its more difficult if you keep chopping and changing your defenders but its shouldn't change much for the foreseeable future as Taylor and Taylor are fecked.

So Colo, Santon, Simpson and Perch (bu probably Willo) will need to get a run of games and understanding going.

To be honest, Perchino has come on so much that I'd prefer him to Willo.

Lose today and the pressure on MA & DL to relieve Pardew of his duties will mount by the game. I don't think he'll last the month If I'm honest, whether that's right or wrong is a matter of opinion.

Would love so much for us to turn in a proper performance with Ba, Cisse and one of our wide men to get on the score sheet to improve their confidence.
