I wonder if a striker like Defoe or Michu would have scored goal for us this season. If so Hughes might have saved his job. Poor transfers was one of his major downfalls.

I'm sure they would but we would be still be playing poorly under Hughes. It would all get down to individual qualities

If QPR had signed him, our wing players wouldn't be able to assist him with a decent cross so we would be saying he's sh*t. It's all about fitting players into the system and then you have a 2 million players scoring every match

    I agree - he's been a huge success and a hell of a bargain, hasn't he?

I was thinking (Mrs Uber said it was bound to happen one day) watching MOTD tonight, about how many of the better performing teams have at least one talisman that seems to always pop up and play a major part in influencing his team's performance, often getting on the scoresheet too. These guys lead by example, or simply have the habit of getting involved in everything that happens, being in the right place at the right time etc. For example:

    - Swansea have Michu
    - Everton have Fellaini
    - West Brom have Long
    - West Ham have Noble

Taarabt ought to be ours, but somehow it doesn't feel like that.

Michu is an attacking midfielder as is Fellaini. They anticipate and read the game so well and are given free rein behind the main striker/s. Kevin Nolan does a similar job for West Ham, they just have a knack of being in the right place...

Just saw this off my scum-supporting friend:

    Giroud - £12.8m
    Michu - £2.0m

    Michu - 10 goals, 1 assist, 15 appearances
    Giroud - 4 goals, 1 assist, 15 appearances

Absolute bargain. In terms of the price, he is the premier league's top goal scorer.

Defoe has 12 ( 9 in the Prem ) no chance of getting him now. Harry needs to unearth a gem.

I honestly thought Hughes and his meticulous scouting chums would of had the capacity to have done this.

The '' We're getting our business done early '' quote is, I find truly haunting.

To of not signed an attacker other than Johnson with all that wealth at his finger tips is reprehensible.

Even some of the posters ( Norway among many others, myself included. ) on here made not ridiculous suggestions as to young hungry up and coming strikers throughout Europe.

I fear that it's too late anyway by the time January comes.

    Nail - head - hit.

Without the service even a great finisher looks average. With great service an average finisher can look good because with the increased number of chances he is bound to out a few away.

Have to agree. Cisse would score goals if we created chances for him.
