Hull city have agreed a deal with Manchester United to buy Joe Dudgeon, i personally think this is a great signing for the club and hopefully will mean Dawson moving over and letting the younger tallet work its magic! Does everybody think we have a chance at the Prem next season with all the youngesters we have (and are after) as it was famously said "you wont win anything with youngesters).
I am very excited ,looking forward to next season great young players all hungry for the Premier League. And whats more important they want to play for Nigel Pearsons "Tigers" I feel very positive for the future. UTT
I for one am very excited! I have lots of mates who are man united fans and they say we have signed a rough diamond in Dudgeon and with stewart, evans and chester we have a good base to build on! Would love to see a 'big' striker who can win a header to accompany fryatt, simpson and mcclean!
We still need more additions before we get carried away, but I trust Pearson more than any other manager weve had to bring the right players in Oh stuff it lets get carried away were going to win the league next season
Genuinely know nothing about him as I suspect most others do too. Just a name at the moment - hope he works out
We are a good 4 or 5 players away from having a side capable of challenging at the top end of the table and, as good a signing as Dudgeon may prove to be, his signing alone isn't going to transform us into next seasons QPR. There are crucial positions that we are well short of, we haven't got a naturally left footed winger in the building, we desperately need to replace Ashbee as we have an abundance of central midfielders who can't put their foot in for love nor money, we need a target man instead of hoofing the ball up to the midgets we currently have up front, we need a goalkeeper and we need a proper captain! Anyone who thinks we will walk this league next year is wrong. We blew a massive opportunity to get out the league this year, and unless things drastically change at home then we will be looking at another mid table finish next season.
I am sure that Mr Pearson still has Andy Dawson in his plans. His experience 'in-the-building' will be vital with all these kids about. I just wonder where Andy Dawson now fits? Midfield? After all, left footers are always good to have around.
We actually have someone with a 'monster' throw as well now, suggesting a strong tall striker may follow to make full advantage
I read words to the effect: "...strong, tough tackling 'up-and-down' left footed full back with a bullet throw (á la Delap)..."
Nice and optimistic Boothferry . I agree to some extent that this years championship would have been a big oppurtunity to get promoted, however you have to consider the state we were relegated in and the amount of change that happened within the squad, we didnt blow promotion, the remnants of Duffen era did. We got close, the home form I agree was inexscusable, but its just one of these things in football. Look at how bad we were away from home and now look whats happened. Yes we need consistency and we definetely need 4 or 5 players (whose to say we won't get them?), but I honestly think we are starting to get a great team ethic (which is priceless) and a manager whos got experience of promotion (albeit league 1 - championship) and also gotten the same team to the playoffs. Next season will be much calmer and I think its fair to judge Nigel on what happens then, the mans done wonders with us really. Regarding Prem teams, West Ham have just announced today, if they get relegated theres little chance of their 'star' players staying. I don't think they'l walk it. It would be the same with Wigan if they went down. Blackpool have been on a pretty bad run and their defence would need to be sorted out if they had hopes of promotion, the team id most be worried about is Wolves.
Different teams work in different ways, saying we need a naturally left footed winger is a matter of opinion! Fair enough it's a valid point you make but QPR do not have a naturally left footed winger. UTT
Arguably their most infamous player, Ali Faurlin, is a left-footed winger. I see your point that some teams can cope without but it's definitely something we could do with, along with a target man and others...
Didn't think Faurlin played as a winger but hey what do I know Signing him could cost them promotion yet anyways! Agreed target man needed
Another shrewd signing from the management team, hopefully we can get the wages of the deadwood crew off the books soon and get several similar signings in. I don't agree that 'we blew a massive opportunity' this season, if anything we are lucky that the management have steadied what was a sinking ship, and to be anywhere near where we finished up is a massive achievement. The Pearsons and the Allems now have a complete pre-season to strengthen us, compare this to the situation we were in last year. Still moaners will moan and that will never change. We will make the play-offs at least next season UTT and great signing Joe Dudgeon!!
Having come through the same accadamy at United; Dudgeon, Chester, Stewart and Evans will have a great rappour with each other and hopefully that'll rub off on the rest of the team. I agree with Boothferry Legend let's not count our chickens just yet, we deffo need to strengthen even further. However, i also agree with what everyone else is saying that we were poor due to off field problems and that's what cost us from having a good start to the campaign. Just look forward to the summer off (if you can without the football to occupy your time on a weekend) and look forward to the new season.
Good signing, still plenty of work to do yet but i'm confident we'll see the right players brought in by the time next season kicks off. Then we can judge fairly whether we are good enough to mount a promotion challenge. I don't think it'll be as easy as us winning the league next season, regardless of who we buy. The league itself is very competative and to say we'd win it so easily is insulting to the nature of the division. We'll have plenty of competition, i think about 80% of the teams in the division would start the season thinking they have a chance of promotion. To be honest i'd rather it be that way than us be outright favourites as we seem to struggle with the pressure on us! Plus it makes it a more exciting, if somewhat nerve wracking and stressful season! Anyway, from 3pm on Saturday i'll be looking forward to next season!
He doesn't. They play 4231 with Derry the ball winner in the 2 and Faurlin the distributor of the ball (think Mascherano and Alonso when they played for Liverpool). Routledge, Taarabt, and Tommy Smith play the 3 attacking positions.
Next Season: Mannone Rosenior Chester Ayala Dudgeon Stewart Evans Koren (New LW) Fryatt (New Target Man) Subs: Eilhoff Hobbs Cairney Belaid Garcia Simpson (New Striker) Backup: Oxley, Dawson, Cooper, Akpan, Harper, Devitt, Barmby, Solano?, Emerton?, Cullen?, McLean. Obviously some of the backups I've used there are capable of playing quite regularly, ie Barmby, Akpan, McLean, Harper. People are making out that we need 10 new players for next season and that that's too much to ask. I've already mentioned 7 as if they are already signed, but Evans and Dudgeon pretty much have, Ayala is in love with NP, there's a deal in place for Akpan and Mannone on loan again next season doesn't seem that unrealistic, whilst Eilhoff has already been a trialist. Hobbs and Pearson's relationship speaks for itself. That's seven pretty straight-forward signings already, although obviously they aren't a given. On top of that we need a left winger (and apparently have already 'all but signed' one. Rose? Ward?) at least 1, possibly 2 new strikers (Fryatt and Simpson look like the only one's who are going to cut it) but if we only sign the one target man we have Barmby, Stewart etc who can play up top if needs be. I see no reason why that team couldn't challenge, and I haven't even mentioned Danns. Nine to ten signings suddenly looks a lot more realistic.
Exciting times on the transfer front. Never seen Dudgeon play, but it's pretty obvious the scouting network do their homework on the Man Utd youngsters. Still rate Daws as first choice left back, but we will need some sort of cover after Kilbane leaves. All this automatic promotion talk is a bit of a joke though. We've had a decent season and, with new players in Summer, the club should be looking to go up. Can't see how some fans are expecting top 2 though. The teams who are in the play-offs who don't go up, the three that come down (apart from West Ham), Leeds, Millwall, Boro, Ipswich and Leicester will all be expecting to at least be competing for a top six place. I also rate Southampton coming up from League 1 as well. I believe we have the ability within the club to get promoted, but I'm far from expecting it
