    Android all the way.

Don't get much bang for your buck with an iPhone, plus you have to use iTunes :emoticon-0119-puke:

iPhone's are essentially a fashion statement, most people are out of fashion every 6 months when Apple release a new model. "OMG its 0.01mm thinner, must buy!"

haha, this! iTunes is awful. If I ever buy an mp3 player, as at the minute i just use my phone, i'll never be buying an iPod either. Would rather go for Creative, much better sound quality and you don't have to use friggin iTunes!

I refuse to become an Apple slave!

Buy an iPhone, just do it. People (usually Apple-hating nerds) will try to talk you out of it and give you all this **** about it breaking, just like they do with all Apple products. It never breaks, never freezes - just like all Apple products! Plus if it does break and you have Apple Care you can take it to the Eldon Square shop and get it fixed, usually there and then. I've had the 3GS for a year and had not one single problem with it at all. Also, you don't have to use iTunes, you can drag music from your library to your phone using Finder, I imagine it works the same with Windows Explorer.

I've always put off getting an Iphone because of the cost, but a friend of a friend works at orange so got me on a friends and family contract £24 a month unlimited text and internet 600 minutes. Could have paid £69 for the Iphone 4 for but just went for the 3 which was no charge.

Now I've got one I love it, had to go to Birimingham the other week and used the Map app as a satnav.
Well impressed with it, can watch porn anywhere now which can't be a bad thing :D

Not true! Work with Macs regularly and they do freeze and crash just as often as a hardware equivalent system running a windows or linux OS.

Wouldn't get an iphone personally, simply because I like wide compatibility and customising the hell out of things myself and Apple's policy of cocooning everything they release within a nice little Apple bubble prevents this! Depends though, if you just need a swanky phone with nice features and aren't too bothered about the compatibility issue, then go for it!

I forgot about that time you tested every Apple product out there.

    <doh>

Also Apple Care (or warranty for normal people) only lasts 1 year. After this it is like £60 every year. Rip off.

    Hey
Right iphone's are great phones i have one my self, i have the 3g only issue i have with mine is obv is now outdated as they arent bringing any updates now for it after the 4.2.1 update, its now only from 3gs and 4 who get updates. I had a look at the iphone 4, its a fantastic phone, 720p apples A4 1ghz processor ****s on any thing it processes and the screen is brill. Obv with the iphone white coming out there has been lots of sayings now that apple have pushed the new suposed "iphone 5" back to september possibly december, so getting a iphone 4 now wont be that bad knowing that. But i have to admit best phone on the market in my own opinion is and has got to be the new Galaxy S 2, dual core 1.2ghz processor, bigger battery, so same life as the original galaxy, 1gb of ram 16/32 hdd models, records in HD 720p OR 1080p and its **** hot quick, smashes the iphone and any current phone out atm in half. Also with Android what i ****ing love is you can use your phone as a wireless access point, so if your on a train or in a field and you have 3g acess or even EDGE bang your phone on teather and then you can connect your laptop wirelessly to your laptop. If your in a good area, you can browse as if you at home, but obv in a bad area it can be a tad slow obv because of the 3g signal. But your choice.
Look at the HTC Desire HD, Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy S2 and the Iphone 4, reason i haven't said anything about BB or even recommended one because imo their **** phones, should never have been sold to anyone unless hes a business man, only reason people are banging on about them is because their cheap ****e and have BB messenger which most people only get it for FACT. My mates been through 10 Black berrys in 18 months and a upgrade for his trouble and its still ****e. he wishes he never left iphone.

Me and my lass have both had the Blackberry Curve then Bold for the last two years. Only had a couple of software errors but they're fine otherwise. If you back everything up they are no hassle at all.

Will the iPhone 3GS stop receiving updates as soon as the iPhone 5 gets released? How much will not receiving updates 'ruin' the phone?

Won't hear a bad word against the iPhone - I love my 3GS and had one of the first silver (2G? generation 1)
iPhones. It really depends what use you intend and also how rough and tumble you expect to be with one.

Like most things, they won't like getting wet and scratched or dropped but mine has barely a mark since over
a year ago. I work daily on Macs at work and have 5 of them of various vintages at home too and have converted
naysayer Mac cynics in the family to big Mac addicts too.

Inevitably there'll always be a new 'whatever' just around the corner so you need to decide what your
expectations are and when you want it - betting money says new iPhone November time in the run in for Xmas.

Gave my original iPhone to my Brother in Law and he fell for it big time after saying it wouldn't interest him.
He decided he needed the biggest/bestest one after a few months and went out and got the most expensive
    new iPhone 4...
