Better goalscorer, yes! But the F9 position is about more than just scoring. Whoever plays there needs to be able to bring others, particularly the two wide players, into play. Shelvey falls down a bit here. I guess it depends what you really want. shelvey is a goal threat but Suso is very creative!
all shevely has really done is knock a couple in in the europa.. thats not prem football so we cannot say if he's all that... he does look very sloppy and drifts in and out so i think we can't rely on him that much. again young and needs both games and a mentality check. sterling needs to come out soon. we are going to burn him out.... simple as that. suso should be replacing gerrard at 70mins frnakly. they guy can't cut the pace.
Gerrard was better but still gave the ball away a couple of times in silly areas. Also, he exactly need to track back as much today and the pace was the fastest either

Missed the game today but after a quick read of this thread and a read of a couple of match reports, it sounds like we dominated the game, had a fair few chances and couldn't put more than once of those chances away. Well, that is a surprise... A win is a win. Clean sheet, positive goal difference and the three points. A few more goals would have been nice but we've got the win and the three points. Job done. Oh and thanks to InBiscanWeTrust for doing the match thread. Been rather busy in the last couple of days and I completely forgot I had to do the match thread! Apologies for that. I should have the time to sort out a match thread for the Udinese game on Thursday!
I thought Gerrard had one of his best games of the season today...I attribute this mostly because Sotton weren't great and hardly had the ball, but also because having an actual DM means he can sit higher up. Suarez seems a natural fit for the wide role with freedom to drift inside, if we get a real goal scorer to sit in the middle instead of Shelvey, we'll be a threat to most teams in the second half of the season. Worth noting that atm, our defense looks top quality. Johnson and Enrique close to the best form of their careers, Agger and Skrtel looking solid, Reina not quite so dodgy and now Lucas back
