Hello and welcome to the all new and improved Match day Hub which is now the official place for Gillingham fans, I decided to update this so that you will know where to go and chat before and during the game. I always post this a few days before the match so you can start to create a debate before the game on what you think will happen in the upcoming game, you can post who you think should play in the game and why. In addition to that you may share with us what you think the team will be that plays as that may be different to the team which you think should play, if you think a certain player should not play you can share with us the reason why as it is good to know what the fans think about the team and why certain players should not be in the team if you want to tell us why. So all you need to do is post your starting 11 plus the 7 which you think will be on the bench, you may be correct or not but it don't matter as no points are awarded it is just for fun. If I am not at the game I will normally post updates about what is going on and the team which is playing, but when I go to games I write up a match report afterwards. You can post freely during and after the game sharing your opinion with us on the result and what you thought of the players who played. If you go to the game it would be great if you could write up a match day report telling up what you think of the result and what you rate each player out of 10 giving a reason why. This is open to both Gillingham fans and also the opposition, don't be afraid to post just because you are not a Gills fan if it is friendly banter that is allowed. Have fun and debate freely! Just want to add aswell if you do any bets you can share with us what you think is the best bet, I do bets each week so I will share them with you if you want.
My view of the game http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/181773-Gillingham-Deepdale-1-12-2012?p=3842971#post3842971
If you know a pub that gets the British games through Nova Sports, the Greek Broadcaster, Preston v Gillingham is Live!
I personally think that the best we can hope for is a draw and try and get a replay , I just can't see us going their and Winning , although I may be wrong ( hope so anyway ) . UTG
Gillingham 21 Forecast 02 Fish 03 Martin 15 Davies 26 Barrett 30 Vincelot 14 Allen 16 Montrose 24 Weston 17 Birchall 20 Burton Substitutes 19 Flitney 11 Jackman 12 Frampton 07 Whelpdale 08 Lee 09 Kedwell 10 Strevens
2-0 this is not good. Callum Davies, what are you doing, I really like him but that is his second mistake in two games. I don't know what we should do about him as we all know he is really talented but that is awful.
All I can say is we tried in the second half but if Kedwell had been on at half time this would have been a different score, he would have scored the pen.
A bit unfair Hoadie. Burton chose his spot and hit the post, that's the way it goes sometimes. As for the score being different if Keds had been on is much as the same as tossing a coin and predicting whether it will come up heads or tails for the pen. The Gills were good in the second half and we had our chances and Preston certainly had theirs. However, we lacked that final punch, whereas Preston relied on the breaks of the game and their pace as we pushed forward. If we want to name players to focus on, mine is still on Weston. Pace is reasonably good but appears to have difficulty beating the final marker, chipping the ball in to the stands or into an empty space. Raising the question again, is he playing to far forward and would he better suited coming through the middle, I think Danny Jackman has more ability down the wing and turning in, plus he is more resilient, I was tempted to say fighter? Something I mentioned a while back and I reflect on again is our set pieces, which I contribute as our weakness. I saw some stats after about 10 games, I might have posted them on here and it demonstrated in quite some detail, that most of our goals are conceded from set pieces, whereas our goals rarely come from them. Maybe someone would like to pick me up on that suggestion and demonstrate any accuracy/inaccuracy of my comments.
If Burton had scored instead of missing, it would have been an interesting game. I'll do a match report on the North End site when I've had some food. Best of luck for the rest of the season and go back to playing in blue, makes more sense.
Click on my link earlier in the thread it will take you to my view of the game, and as I said before good luck for the rest of the season
Played well in the second half but gave Preston too much respect in the first half and the team made so many mistakes that it was always going to be tough getting back into it at 2-0 down. Not to mention the quality of the ref and linesman by the Gills fans didn't help. Birchall look good considering today was his first start for the club and played the full 90. He may be that link that we've been missing up front from some of the games this season. Some of the play in the second half was very good and were very unlucky to not score. But in the first half we were very sloppy and Davies' inexperience has resulted in 2 goals in 2 games. I think we're missing Flanagan at the moment and MA has to get a new centre-back in January. Forecast, who I wasn't impressed with, should have done better with the second goal and overall he looked very sloppy. It's easy to see why he doesn't play many games.
ManchesterGill the game didn't have much quality - with little work for either keeper. We got done for a couple of sloppy pieces of defending. The 2nd goal took a deflection off Barrett - so to criticise Fortune is a little unkind - I don't believe he could get to the ball. In the 2nd half we had a bit more possession - without being able to break through - and PNE didn't have to break sweat to keep their lead.
I am not sure that it is fair to say that the game had no quality, PNE looked very good. As you would expect from any Westley side they were big, physical and very well organised... Ok they weren't overly pretty on the eye or producing flowing attacking football but they were very good and simply too good for us. We hardly got a look in in the first half and the improvements seen in the second half only occured due to PNE sitting back, knowing that the job was already complete. This is the level that we need to get to if we are to compete in L1 and we are along way off at the moment
BSG I didn't say that the game had no quality -just not a lot - and what quality there was mainly came from PNE. Sadly, I have to agree that the game was not too pleasing to the eye, and that Gills did not produce a performance that was/is able to compete with L1 football. The game had too many below par performances that we need to lose pdq.
The second goal resulted from a poor decision by Callum Davies. As I recall it he had plenty of time to clear the ball upfield, and players available to pass to, but dithered a bit too long, by which time opportunities upfield were too restricted, and he then got caught in possession. After that it was damage limitation, which was ultimately unsuccessful because Barratt had moved upfield and struggled to get back, and Fortune was left with no cover in front of him. I certainly wouldn't put any blame on Fortune, or Barratt for that matter. PNE were definitely 2 goals better than us, and whilst 3-1 might have reflected the game a bit more accurately it's just numbers.
Here's some highlights of the game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DB1lX8u_6Mk&feature=g-all Sorry always but I have to disagree with you regarding Forecast. After watching the second goal over a few times I can't help but think that if Nelson (or maybe Flitney) were in goal, then he'd have shouted out to Davies to play it back to him, pass it to Fish who wasn't too far away or put it out. Forecast should have known that Davies is very young and was likely to be unsure of what to do in that situation considering that he'd done the same thing at Accrington which resulted in Nelson being shown red. He needed to communicate better or at least try to impose himself more by coming out for it rather than sitting back and only doing something once Davies had lost it.
