You could argue that all successful teams have one man who can make a difference when the team as a whole is not performing.

Barca without Messi would still be a great team but not half as successful. Real Madrid without Ronaldo?. Would Chelsea have won the CL without Drogba?

The truly great players make that difference, the stand out team for me in this regard is the Argentina with Maradona, without him I doubt they would have won anything. The rest of the team were pretty ordinary.

Everton for example right now, very good team but without the very special player they are unlikely to make an impact.

    Agreed spurf <ok>

Also backs up HBIC's comment about Dembele being our "one man team", rather than bale, if we go by results.

When everyone's fit and firing, I'd suggest that we're far from a one man team.
Our squad needs a little bit of tinkering in the transfer window, but the fact that we're still in a decent position despite our big changes and injury problems is very positive.

If Bale was out, then we could do far worse than putting Dempsey into his position.
The American scored more goals from there last season than any non-striker and he matched Adebayor's tally for the league campaign (17), bettering his overall tally (23 to 18).
A very different player to the Welshman, but a potentially dangerous option, nonetheless.

    Bale's value 35 to 45 million.
    Verts,Dembele, Kaboul, Lloris 10 to 16 million.
Bale would fetch at least double to three times the value of any other player at Spurs.
Nobody comes near him in value . The others are good but at this moment in time not in
his class and IMHO never will be. Price dictates.
He is the last of our holy trinity and we should cherish him before Levy sells him
for a pot of silver . Without him we would be workmanlike and mid table.
Dempsey for me in his position as a replacement would be like going from Krug Grand Cuvee
    to Tesco's own brand .

Agreed. This time lasr year we had Modric and VDV who were absolute quality. Plus useful plan Bs such as Niko, Defoe and even Pav (never rated him but he knew where the goal was and was a decent sub if we were behind). Now we have Bale and, at a push, Defoe as our special players.

For me we are Bale and some freakish form from Defoe away from being a team that looks distinctly mid-table.

Ade and Dembele returning could change my mind on that, though.

  10. Fellani, however, does seem to be carrying them, right now.

On a related Talk$hite topic, you may be surprised to find that Durham is only my second most hated presenter. The worst I think is Andy Goldstein. There are so many examples. You might wonder why I listened so much, but I didn't want to be accused of forming an opinion based on limited evidence. But I am now absolutely sure that the man is a complete **** of the highest order. Starting with the fact that he's a ManU supporting Londoner, you have many examples of him being hurtful and not funny at all (though he thinks he is being).

  13. I can see what you mean, vim, but I have to say that I have never had a problem with Andy Goldstein. Some of his risque banter with Bobby Gould is hilarious! And the "porn or Bjorn" slot is pure genius.

I can just about forgive him for being a plastic Manc in light of all of that.

No problem with that opinion, perhaps he is even funny occasionally (some people even find Keith Lemon funny!) I just find some things beyond not funny, like when he gets people who can barely speak English to do the trailers, and revels in their inability to do it, in a kind of 'aren't foreigners stupid' kind of way.

  15. Agreed, that isn't at all funny.

  16. Well, guys, we're going to find out, now, whether or not that ginger cock, Durham, is right about us being a one-man team.

Looks like Bale could be out for a few weeks with a pulled hamstring.

We need the rest of the team to step up, and for players like Siggy and Falque to stake their claim for regular starts.

Agreed although I think he does actually seem to dislike Arsenal more than us!
