If we changed managers right now, it would mean that we would have had a 6th managerial appointment in just 6.5 years (7 including caretakers) and amazingly it would be 3 managers in just the last 12 months alone (yes 3 in a year). Since McCarthy left in March 2006, we have been through Bally (caretaker) Keane, Sbragia, Bruce and now MoN. For those who want Martin out, it would be a 6th manager since March 2006. Foolhardy to say the least. The last thing this club needs now is yet another change of manager. What we need is a change of quality on the park not in the dugout. Martin above all knows we need better players but he has had a mere 51 weeks in the hot seat and is still only beginning the task of righting the woeful efforts of his predecessor. We donât have a strong squad and it shows. We have plodders. His first real delve into the transfer market in the summer (I'm not accepting that he had last January as his 1st window, as his primary task on appointment was stopping the relegation slide, not chucking any old pile of ****e at the team in January) bore some good fruit. Johnson hasnât set the world on fire but back in August we all wet ourselves at the thought of him coming and so did a host of other fans who wanted him just as much at the time. He is a good footballer and he will come good. Fletcher is a top quality footballer and a classy striker; Cuellar is a steady centre half and Danny Rose is the find of the summer imo. MoN has got the experience, history, background and the trophy cabinet to back up his claim to the job here and if we hold our nerve (I donât need to hold it as I am 100% behind the bloke anyway) he will deliver. The names some people are bandying about as possible alternatives are simply laughable. Martinez? What on earth will he bring but just a relegation scrappers mentality? Ole Gunnar? Unproven at a high league level? Van Basten? WTF would he come to Sunderland for and what guarantees are there he would succeed? SAF took 4 years with all the might of the Old Trafford machine behind him to win anything at Man Utd; Moyes took 6 years to get it right at Everton and nearly relegated them twice in his first 4 years but he is now heralded as some sort of god like figure. Wenger hasnât won a trophy for some 6 years but what would Arsenal sack him for? Stop this nonsense about O'Neill leaving and get behind the team and manager. If by the end of next season and he has had a full 2 years we can really judge him properly, after he has had 3 transfer windows to change the personnel and get HIS players in. There simply ISNT a credible alternative to him right now and this is the time for real men to stand up and support our manager. MoN's red & white army. KTF
after 2 years we may be in league 1 ( i dont think we will be but there is always a chance) I am in the MON in camp, but to just give him carte blanche on this and trust him and give him 2 years is a bit silly imo.
Personally I will start judging Mon after January as he is still working with some of the dross bruce brought in. Disagree about Martinez though I think he has potential to be a top manager.
Cest mate, i feel you are banging your head against the wall here with some.. The stone has been cast.... God help us....and **** the media... Oh, and Meyler naybe re-called according to reports of the Hull lads....**** and creek, but Marty can paddle.
If we are in the bottom three and adrift of safety with no sign of turning it around I think he'll step aside. December is make or break. Have a feeling being the away side might suit us in our current plight. Im strangely confident about Sunday :-/
I feel more confident about away games funnily enough, fans don't get on the players backs so they play with more freedom.
League 1? Give yourself a shake man. So you think 2 years is too long to give a new manager? Bloody hell, I don't think you would have many takers for the job. How long would chairman Steve give a new manager then? 12 months with a target of top 8 or sacked? I think Mon deserves his full 2 years to show up his worth personally and that surely goes for any decent manager.
I wouldn't touch the little bottler with your barge pole. If Mon did go, he wouldn't even make my top 20.
huh did you read what i said or just the 1st line and jumped in at the deep end. I am MON in, but no ****er is bigger than SAFC, if they are detrimental to the club and are looking to ruin us, then sorry you could be the special one and i would still want the ****er out. I also said i dont think we will be in league 1 but the chance is there still. If we dont pull our socks up and soon, its a bloody good chance.
Great post Cest'.....Its unreal that so called fans are calling for the sacking of MoN after 12 months. So what happens if Wigan's finest took over? do we give him 12 months...if no improvement then he get the chop. Get real.....Martinez can only dream of being anywhere near as good a manager as MoN. We have a quality manager. The club is going through a tough time on the field, let him sort it out with the fans backing.
I'm happy with MON at the minute sort of however I don't count, it's Ellis Short who will be looking at the money he has put in and where we are after that. I think if we are clear of the crap by mid December, which will mean winning at least 2 of the next 3 or so games then he'll stay. If we are in the crap then Short may be looking for a new manager to give him the January window by the time Jesus has his birthday. I'm not happy with changing managers again especially as MON has not had a full year in charge yet (I think) but, if he is dragging the club down then he will have to go I don't think it's all him though. The players need to have a long hard look at themselves, too many under performing or just not performing that is the main reason for our predicament and, they are the only ones who can drag us up the league and comfy. Relegation is a distinct possibility mind you so is Europe for all the teams down there all it takes is a few good results where we'll get those results though is anyones guess.
Perception is a strange beast. If MON wasn't our manager and was available now (Hypothetically assuming Bruce was still in charge) Where would MON be on our shortlist? At the top, just like he was 12 months ago.
I'm neither Mon in or out I'm still too bewildered as to how bad we've become to point fingers. Out of interest Cest... if we get 1 or dare I say it 0 points from the next two games will you still think MON needs to stay? Hopefully won't happen, purely hypothetical.
Sacking MON now simply has far more downside than up. No manager guarantees success, even Cloughie failed at Leeds and Brighton, and just who who we get at the drop of a hat? Frankly, this is a non-issue for me right now.
Ridiculous? Why? If you want me to be blunt I wouldnt consider him full stop. He bottled the chance to manage not only one of English footballs biggest clubs but one of Europes biggest. Whatever the details, he prefered to stay in his very comfortable, no pressure, easy day to day job where expectation is minimal and survival the ONLY agenda. He knew he couldn't handle a club like Liverpool and he would be crucified in the pressure cooker environment of the NE IMO. He would be an absolute disaster here IMO. Your opinion may differ but it doesn't make mine any more ridiculous than your support of him. Words of this nature are unwanted and tbh demeans your entire argument. Just my opinion.
