Well I've just seen a video of what's been happening in Syria since they got disconnected from the internet, and I kinda wish I hadn't.

Any particular reason? Is it literally just anarchy there now?

It's pretty bad. The video was of a bunch of men rushing to the site of a recent explosion (could be an IED, artillery or airstrike, not sure) and trying to recover all the bodies from the rubble. The first victim they reached was a young boy who was still alive, but was missing a large chunk of the back of his head and bleeding severely. He was talking to the men who picked him up and removed him, so I think he should be fine. They then uncovered several more bodies, some still moving, some not moving but possibly still alive, and some clearly dead. One guy appeared to be missing a part of his face, but was still moving. One guy was clearly dead, as his head was barely connected to his body. In the second half of the video, loads of men are digging through rubble to reach one kid, and judging by their excitement when they get to him, there's a good chance he's still alive, but it's hard to tell.

As far as I understand the situation, Assad is trying to wipe out entire cities in order to quash the rebellion. As usual, the rebels aren't exactly perfect either and they seem to be divided on what they want (some want democracy, some want Sharia, etc.), which is causing further unnecessary bloodshed. It's sort of becoming a free-for-all. I believe that it was Assad who decided to take the country offline yesterday, but I'm not certain on that.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was Assad who took them offline. All part of the efforts to stop the rebellion. As we saw with the Arab Spring last year, social media is playing an increasing role in countries like this.

I've seen a couple of videos from Syria too, one of which showed a man with his face completely blown off. Not a pretty sight at all, and I'm thakful that I don't live in a country like that.

Forget you ever heard the name. Turn back now, before it's too late.
