It's not a monkey gesture, it's a chicken dance. Says Sunderland fan.

I say itchy armpits should have been the excuse.

He coulod've said that is armpits were both itchy and I don't think they'd have been able to do anything about it - if my armpits are both itchy at the same time then I scratch them - regardless of who is celebrating a goal in front of me!

(I'm only saying this by the way - I do not condone his behaviour but what could the police do to prove that it wasn't an itch??

Sorry, but I don't think anyone caught doing monkey impressions or whatever should be imprisoned. Things like this can make it so we scratch our arse at the wrong time and we're banned.

If you're saying vile and racist things, then fair enough, but stupid noises and animal impressions, nope.

Well with the face he was pulling, it would be hard to justify scratching your armpits with a face like that

Have you not heard of the latest drug the scientists are developing? Apparently there is a vaccine in development for the howling itchy armpit disorder. Trial runs available on the NHS today. Bit of a coop if you are able to clutch such an opportunity to be cured for free.

The thing is that a camera could now catch someone in the process of putting your arms in the air to applaud someone and it could look like a monkey gesture. So in my opinion, it should take more than just photographic evidence to be convicted of an offence such as this.

Without a doubt. We may aswell find a new island and start banging up anybody for anything. Tenuous evidence for a formal prosecution to say the least. The fact that the lad has been in every paper going is 100 times worse than 6 months bird.

I know its not as simple as this but its flicking obvious what he was doing and I hope they throw the book at him for trying to lie about it. Our main sponsor is Invest in Africa and our best player is black I really don't understand racists

Is it racist to say sol campbell looks like a baboon? Possibly but it doesnt stop it being true.

Is it racist to say gareth bale looks like a monkey? No cos hes white but it doesnt stop it being true.

Lukaku does look a bit like a silverback gorilla to me. So does this make me racist? Some will say yes somewill say no.

However i have no douby this clown was making the gesture in a racist manner but how do you prove what is and isnt racist? To me it all rests with personal opinion

How hard is it to just not point out that these players, who supposedly look like monkeys, look like monkeys.

I'd still be a virgin if I pointed out to the birds that I've slept with that they look like horses, pigs and in the odd case kinda like a squirrel.

sorry, but using "monkey" to describe someone who i black is definitely racist, regardless of what facial features they may have, because of the connotation. if you want to play on that logic, you could argue using the n word isn't racist too, after all it comes from the latin for black. clearly, anyone who does use it is no classical philosopher.

in my humble opinion, you make a gesture like that, you get banned for life. next.

I have never once said that he wasn't making a racist gesture, in all honesty it looks like he probably was. What I was saying is that to convict someone of it on photographic evidence alone is flimsy to say the least, and will undoubtedly at sometime lead to someone being wrongly convicted.

That's the problem with the justice system though mate. The same applies to evidence provided by witnesses.

    It's rarely concrete when there's a denial.
