The common theory about the saltire now is that some Pictish king looked up on the morning of a battle and there was a white cross in the sky that was taken as a good luck charm - his tribe then adopted it or some ****. Anyway, that's why some nationalists want the shading of the flag to be recognised as sky blue. I prefer this story - it's nicer than "some Christian Arab that spent ten minutes on Iona or some other island got crucified wonkily"
