Bollocks.

Both are immoral and Joe Public ends up paying for taxes that are not paid. It is us law abiding citizens who have to cough up for the shortfall.

Alright then. How about if he'd stolen a loaf of bread and some teabags from Tesco? That the same as wee Billy McCunto and his choared bucky? <whistle>

But you can't put a value on it.

Joe the plumber getting a £2k cash in hand heating job, thus avoids paying 25% tax (£500) would be as morally reprehensible to a homeless fellow, we'll come him Timothy for the time being, as it would be to some middle income type's horror at at overpaid footballers paying as little tax as possible.

It's not immoral to pay as little tax as you can, if you could get away with paying less tax, then you'd do it. **** the public purse, you're alive to earn money not to pay for some jakeball's liver transplant or some boots child allowance. It's your money, you earned it!!!

Yes, and people like me have to pay for your pension. There probably won't even be a state pension when I get to retirement age <grr>

Surely it depends on whether Billy (a much better choice of name) is a good honest law-abiding tax-paying tramp or a deceitful evil-tax-avoiding tramp. <ok>

If I thought paying less tax was the be-all-end-all, I'd probably vote quite differently. Obviously I'd like to be personally richer but I've got my principals, maaaaan. <whistle>

He used extreme examples and was probably taking the piss but I know people on DLA who have better cars and nicer holidays than your average working Joe. Why should Joe not say **** it and start bumping every ****?

DLA, in itself, is an extreme example.

When accepting a mortgage or loan :bandit:, it's the only benefit that can be counted as guaranteed income - and that's only because of disability discrimination laws.

It's dealt with in Blackpool by a completely seperate government department from the rest of the DWP.

Do you not get DLA or a carer's allowance for one of your boys? I thought you mentioned previously that you did.

I won't deny that anyone getting things you can't afford (seemingly undeservingly) is a bit of a pisser.

I still think the NHS is one of the greatest things about the UK. I pay for all those jakies getting liver transplants but I'm cool with that because the alternative is a world where people I know on low incomes who work hard would be denied essential health treatment.

Similarly, I don't want to see everyone who is incapacitated from working living on the absolute breadline <ok>

EDIT: I just don't think it's fair that anyone unfit to work should be willing to accept living under an extremely low glass ceiling simply because their natural ability to work has been hindered and an absolute meritocracy believes that ANYONE who does any sort of work deserves a better lifestyle than them.

Must have been someone else Bib, my boy has a blood disorder but doesn't get any benefit for it.

I'm talking about people who get DLA and there is **** all wrong with them, I know loads of the ****s.

So you don’t think there’s any difference between Joe the Plumber making £500 tax free for a homer and Jimmy Carr paying only a penny in the pound tax because he has all his money in the Isle of Man?

    Interesting standpoint.

No, I just get pissed off with the tax system and even more pissed off with the morality nonsense that we're getting hit with. It's immoral to spend the money you earned and you should morally give the state that money to fund a whole manner of pish.

If the guy who thought up the welfare state was alive today, I'd bet he'd be fizzing at what it's became.

(The guy was called Beveridge.. fizzing... get it?)

    Here's one for the moralists.

It is a FACT that more than half of families in the UK take more benefits OUT of the state than they pay in via Tax.

    How immoral is that?

An additional point: it's statistically highly probable that Joe the plumber is less of a twat than Jimmy Carr. <ok>

I've had some twattish plumbers in my time but none had a laugh as bad as Jimmy Carr.
