Personally, in there financial situation I don't like admitting it. But they'd be foolish to turn it down. It's basically, easy money, if they climb up the leagues and start getting more and more money, then there is nothing saying they simply can not change back!

I know there is money at stake, but renaming any established stadium just seems wrong, bit like renaming a ship or boat, apparently it's unlucky, I'm having visions of empty football grounds, bit like the Mary Celeste, :undecided:

Seriously, just no. I've lived and studied in Glasgow, there are at least 2 crummy JJB/SPD shops on their two biggest shopping streets. They get big business with the NED culture and all ("ge' orff me trackyyyy yee Englush bast-erd"), and who do NEDs love to support? Rangers... As a marketing strategy, this seems iffy...

Obviously, if it is reported as a "Mike saves beleaguered Rangers", it's genius. If it's reported like "SPD Arena in rename of historic SJP", Mike's a massive thick clot, and he'd be better just sticking up those tacky white signs. Can't see it being the former.

If the owner of the Sports Direct Celeste had invested in a new crew then this sorry story would have had a different ending.

I would have thought that Ashley would have understood by now that renaming such a historic ground to something as tacky as Sports Direct is not a good idea.
He saw and knows how Tyneside reacted to the changing of SJP and he is our owner and clubs financial backer.
He means diddly squat to the Rangers supporters and this for me is another cheap Ashley stunt.
Surely he can find a more dignified way to promote his business in Scotland.
I realize the club are in financial difficulties ATM, but like Lady E suggests, l hope they tell him to do one!

Yes I have, it's a classic! They have a couple of sit-coms up there that English audiences don't get to see often which are quite good. Unfortunately, it comes at a price. Scotsport/sportscene is the most tragic thing to accost my eyes through the medium of 25 frames per second television <ok>

No such thing as Football Focus to them, and I couldn't even watch that for most of my stay there beacuse we lived rurally (so without internet) for 4 years... At least FF has the decency to cover crappy Scottish games with that outrageously Scottish commentator, but Sportscene doesn't bother with those Ing-er-lush bast-urd games beyond a scrolling graphic every ten minutes... I then had to put up with whines about how during the World Cup/Euros they have to put up with our bias Ing-ur-lish bast-urd coverage on Scottish BBC 1... Well I have an idea, either qualify for the next tournament you stupid prats, or watch another nations coverage online!!!!

You've got to admire the sheer opportunism of the man... Rangers in the financial poop, buys shares in the club, naming rights to the stadium... I'll bet the Rangers fans are loving Mike Ashley already! <laugh>

It doesn't matter what he calls it, it will forever remain Ibrox - take his money and let him peddle his cheap tat in Scotland <ok>

    They deserve each other, frankly.
