To be honest I didn't understand why people were saying it was a "comical" own goal until seeing that. I'm hoping if I watch it long enough Bale will duck and we keep a cleansheet :(

I love banter threads like this one but even the most ardent supporter cannot be so blinkered as to state rubbish like this, supporters of many other teams will have looked at these players and think 'yes' they were great players, just as players like Brady and Henry should be regarded as great by supporters of all clubs too (even Spurs fans), if we take Jimmy Greaves as an example he scored 357 goals in 516 top flight games in this country (better than a goal every 1.5 games, Similar to Henrys record at Arsenal), but he also scored 44 international goals in just 57 matches at a time when there were very few international gimmes like there are now, and as an England fan I was at Wembley for England v Scotland at Euro 96 and Gazza's goal will live with me forever.

you may have a case for greaves but , now tell us why Gazza and Hoddle and Ardilles were " great ".

    No chance.

Sol campbell was good though .

He had a lot of success.

I love that you think Gazza and Hoddle and Ossie were not great players....they'd all walk into any team...

Ardiles won the World Cup. He also won J-League manager of the year and had a Chas n Dave song written about him. So there.

Have to say, even as a Die Hard Gooner. That Ardiles, Hoddle and Gazza were some of the most exciting players to watch.

I will now go and wash my mouth out with caustic soda and bleach <ok>

Hoddle and Ardiles were before my time, so I can't comment on them. But Gazza was one hell of a player.

Hoddle was outstanding - as was ossie - both would be superstars today - but in a moment of gooner spurs friendship (or truce) I'd say that Liam Brady was up there with them

Ok, whilst this is a diversion from my usual sensibilities <whistle> I shall continue with the deference to acknowledging that Spurs have had some great players

As an inclination as to what sort of players they would be comparable with Arsenal's, for me would be like this . .

    Hoddle - Fabregas
    Ardiles - Cazorla
    Gazza - Wilshere
