As soon as you said KD's distribution is "comfortably better than the other two" I stopped listening. Kevin's kicking has always been a massive weakness of his game, I thought that was obvious to everyone, even Kelvin himself. I panic less with the ball at Gazza's feet than I do and did with Kelvin early doors.
If Boruc goes from not even making the bench to playing on Saturday, then our goal-keeping comedy will be complete.
Its a toughie. I feel really sorry for Nige, he's not done much wrong, but hasn't got the points he has deserved. Sticking with the kid was right, maybe up to now, but again, I'll leave that harsh choice to the man getting paid to make that decision. But, what I will say is, the kids done some good things, things people fail to notice or don't want to acknowledge. Can't defend the blatant mistakes, Dyers goal & today have left a nasty taste, but it could be more damaging replacing him, especially now Fonte is looking good & Yoshi is looking, err, erm better. Don't throw the baby out with the bath-water, but as DTLW said, what do we know.
Should've re-instated Boruc after his disciplinary was dealt with, loaned Gazzaniga out to a Championship team for more experience and had Kelvin as back up. Boruc is rusty and possibly not match fit, the only way to get through that is to play games. There is no doubting that of the 3 he is the most accomplished and imo, if we can get him back to close to his best, will be miles better than the other 2. Gazza has a lot of potential but he is not a Premiership standard keeper atm, and his mistakes are costing us points. You can harp on and on about the other players on the pitch, but against Swansea if he had just hoofed it clear they wouldn't have created a chance all game, and today he didn't have much to do (did make a decent save from a corner) yet still made an error which led to the goal. This to me shows that the outfield players are doing their jobs as they are limiting chances to the opposition, in every game the keeper is going to have to deal with some stuff, especially for a team like ours, we need one who is going to be consistant and not massively error prone
Gazza has directly cost us three goals in four games. While one of those three goals came to nothing (QPR) the other two were equalisers (Swansea, Norwich). Therefore in four games, he has directly cost us four points. **** it, get Blackstock back.
It seems a coin toss to me. None stand out which of course why there is this thread. I hope we can get Friedel in January. By far a better keeper than we have now. I'd take loan or permanent. Certainly he is getting old but still seems to have the ability.
The reason is because Davis is much better on goal kicks. We retain the ball with plenty of Davis' which is why his pass completion is comfortably higher . There is no hiding from stats. If you are talking about distance of long kick that is another matter
We've all been debating this for weeks and are none the wiser. Boruc is a total unknown. If anywhere near his best he plays but the fact he's not even on the bench suggests Nigel isn't convinced he is. Think therefore you have to stick with the potential of Gazza for now. Saturday is difficult though.. If Gazza plays and makes a mistake the Kop will be merciless and his confidence could do a Bart! Glad I'm not Nigel!
Robinson is being released by Blackburn. That would be a great Jan signing! One of the best keepers in the Prem last year.
I have been supportive of keeping Gazza in the team up til now, and perhaps it should continue. But i would like to see Super Kelvin Davis back in goal at Anfield as i dont think that the goalkeeping has improved at all since he was dropped, after a few games against some of the worlds top gun strikers. I see comments on here about Kelvin not getting down to shots quick enough - i have not noticed this after watching him dozens and dozens of times. In the that famous game at Leeds he got down to loads of shots - maybe not the Prem but they were still hard shots which he saved. I dont think that distribution arguement stands up now either as Saints style of play had changed since Kelvin was in the team when he was forced by tactics to pass out to his defenders - we rarely do that now. Play Kelvin for the next couple of games and see how he goes.
Absolutely no way. Never rated him too highly. Why are Blackburn getting rid of him, for one? Why do we want a Championship reject goalkeeper? Got to be Friedel for me.
Really hard one. Gazza was never brought in to be our first choice keeper, but as one for the future. It will all come down to whether Nigel thinks PL experience is helping him or damaging him and whether he thinks the experience of SKD/Boruc outweighs the greater ability that he presumably sees in Gazzaniga. NA will no doubt think getting a fantastic keeper in at January would be the best option, but are they out there? January is a notoriously difficult window to get people in. Do we want to end up with yet another not-quite-good-enough keeper?
I remember a while a go we were talking whether or not we should get a decent keeper in Jan and everyone agreed no the money would be better spent on other areas of the team. Well now the defence seems to be more assured i believe we have to make a accomplished gk our N0 1 target. Anyone of spurs back up keepers will do till the summer. Back to who i think should be n0 1 till jan i say give kelv 3 games and see what happens if not give the drunk another try and send gazza out on loan to hartlepool as their defence is poor so he would get plenty of pratice.
Still feel that we need to spend on defence rather than another goalkeeper (unless a real beauty comes along). The defence is playing well, but they won't all stay fit all season, especially Shaw who struggles to finish a game (because of his age). Imagine if he can't play on Saturday and Fonte goes down with a stomach bug...that's a thought that would keep you awake at night. Definitely spend on the back four.
