I found it very difficult to pin down exactly what formation we played last night. Initially i thought it was a 4-1-2-2-1 , then I thought 4-2-3-1, and finally a 4-3-3. The movement of M'Bia and Diakite in particular made it difficult to confirm. Formations aside it was reassuring to see our players doing what they are handsomely paid to do..........break a buckin sweat and show some desire.

I agree he does seem to have a detractor or two:grin: He didn't look fit enough to cover more than about an eigth of the pitch last night, and then only for 10 minutes, off the pace, and ineffectual, then he disapeared from my TV any way. Perhaps Harry can get something out of him when he is fit - at least he didn't play him on the wing.

Looked like 4-2-3-1 to me nuts, which easily morphs into 4-3-3 with Granero forming a central 3 with M'Bia and Diakite.
BTW....some are saying that they'd like to see M'Bia back at right back. I thought he was our best player in midfield according to all the reports I read!

He was excellent Col. Would only play at RB if we have no other option. Can't really see that as we have Fabio, Onouha, and Dyer who can play there

I think it was basically a 4 3 3, Arry really confirmed this when he was praising his 3 powerful midfield players after the game. But M'bia was mostly deeper than Diakite and Granero, central not far off the 2 CB's. Cisse was normally further forward than Adel and Mackie, until the subs when he seemed to move wider and a bit deeper. So though basically a 4 3 3, it often looked like 4 1 2 2 1

Ha! You don't mention Bosingwa Nuts! I thought he was ok last night. But I agree M'bia was very good - good to have so versatile a player, and while Nelsen and Hill play reasonably solid, and we have plenty RB's, I think he is best played CDM protecting the back 4, and starting a lot from the back, plus some very good long passes.

Yep, makes sense mate. As I say, 4-3-3 can often look like and morph into 4-2-3-1 and both become 4-5-1 when the ball is lost.
I advocated either 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 weeks ago, so a strong midfield 3 with 3 more attacking players ahead suits me. We've all been calling for that midfield triangle of 3 players and hopefully that's what we'll get now.

Can't have Bosingwa at all. He has not earned my respect yet.

I agree, he looks like he's wearing shoes 5 sizes too large and has loose fit (feet <laugh>), looks like he's purposefully trying to shoot over the bar <laugh>
