<laugh> I tend to Hulk out at times!

But if we use our tactics and force Man City to buy Jenas and Bentley for £30m each, I reckon we'd break even with the signings we'd intend to make :D

Good to hear he's doing so well. He's been playing left back hasn't he? O'Neill's very sharp on things like positioning and defensive organisation so I think it's a good place for him to be this season if that's going to be his final position.

He should join them permanently in my opinion.

Lets be honest, while Benny is still a Spurs player Rose won't have a look in, plus Vertonghen has been great there too. Rose is at a great club with a good manager, think he'd be stupid to come back if he has the chance to stay.

what when we need cover at left back,so Verts can move back to C/B,plus i don't think Benny is very good, while Rose is looking very good at Sunderland

It's amazing the difference of opinion, really. I'm the opposite to you over Benny and Rose, Tots.

I think Benny is a superb left back. - eratic at times, but in general I think he's quality. I'd even go as far as to say that i think he's one of the best left backs in the league. I also think he helps massively in getting the best out of Bale.

I've not seen much of Rose @ sunderland, but prior to his loan move, I've never felt comfortable with him on the pitch. I've always felt he's been overrated since THAT goal against arsenal.

However, the sunderland fans appear to be singing his praises.

Naturally Benny must be a good player to play in the P/L,but it's his being Eratic, tht makes him a weak link imo.Danny is playing well and is following on from his good performances for the G.B. team and the England under 21's.

Benny's a great LB in my opinion, I think while he's been out it's shown just how much we've missed him and more in particular, how much Bale has missed him.

Rose is doing great at Sunderland from what I've heard but fact is he isn't and (in my opinion) never will be better than Benny, plus you have to see it from his perspective too, why on earth would he want to come back here only to play 3/4 league games a season (as cover for Benny) when he has the opportunity to play week in, week out at a good club.

I think we should bring a Nelsen-esque signing at LB, someone who's experienced, got a year or two left in the tank for top level football and is happy playing second fiddle but also ensuring he gives Benny a good challenge for the position at the same time.

Besides Naughton is OK at LB providing he hasn't got to face someone with lightning speed (Walcott, Valencia etc) as otherwise they'll run him ragged, like we've seen.

    Benny > Rose.
No contest for me. We miss Benny, not just because he is a natural left back but because he links up well with Bale

Disagree I think we are missing Benny very much. His ability to turn defence into attack and his work with Bale are key elements in our team IMO.

He is often charged with being erratic but I think you have to take into account that LB and RB are potentially the most exposed positions (along with Goalkeepers) in the game. It is here that teams attack with pace and any mistake from the back is far more obvious, and dangerous, than a similar mistake in midfield and attack.

Assou-Ekotto's a very good left-back, but he's lacked cover and competition for a few years now.
Redknapp froze Rose out last season after he started the campaign injured, then refused to loan him out and we had no reserve games, so he was extremely rusty when he returned to the side.

He filled in comfortably when called upon at the end of the previous season and he's apparently impressing at Sunderland, plus he did well with the England U21 side.
It's probably a good idea to hold onto him until the end of the season and assess things then.

Asmir Begovic has touted Miralem Pjanic's move to us from Roma as a perfect fit.
Ah, he must still have fond memories of being sold by us for a million quid, despite never being on our books...

I wonder if he's doing a Modric? I'll wait and see if his national team coach and every Serbian around starts saying that he should move to Spurs, I think.

    *ahem*

    Bosnian

Don't think he'd like being mistaken for a Serb, or a Croat, for a few dozen good reasons...

    Former Luxembourgian?
I didn't say that he was a Serbian anyway, just that Serbs might talk up a move to Spurs... <whistle>

We've been linked with Ricky van Wolfswinkel, again.
Nothing new, but it's still amusing enough a name to post it, anyway!

    got a link PNP?

it appears that Barca are after Pjanic too, apparently. i know nothing about the lad, but if it's true that Barca are interest, then that's probably a good sign! they're not bad at spotting the odd bit of talent. :)
