:) happy i am, for sure! The nightmare journey was worth it! :)..thanks Hampshire :)

It's a match i won't be forgetting in a hurry, the worst journey ever! lol

    Haha! Well done Saxet!

Thanks LTF! Rep returned ;)...was definitely worth the trip!

Okay, so it took me over 45 minutes to do a 20 minute journey, just to pick Dan up, because of the accident on the M25, that should have been a warning sign. I didn't heed it though, and we trouped up the motorway to meet a hideous jam at junction 20-22 which took over an hour and a half to get through. We finally got to our seats in the 53rd minute and despite seeing only 42 minutes of football, we saw 3 wonderful goals, Yeates' was just a beaut! Even Dan is softening about Yeates! lol. The best bit was spending half a match with my son, who i'd arranged to meet at the game, as he's in Leeds..and he was so glad i persuaded him to go! What a great half we saw, we were completely in control, and the speed at which their fans left was a sad sight..i feel for them, they really don't seem to have much to cheer about at the moment.

Btw, my son has decided that it's all down to him. When he lives down here we don't do well, when he lives in Yorkshire, Yorkshire teams don't do well <laugh>

Onward and upward...just glad i don't have to travel far on Saturday!

I am. He has only scored 2 free kicks in 2 seasons despite being a 'specialist' and having multiple chances. He is still over hitting corners and we are losing the ball from them. I will admit his two goals this season were good ones though, but there is still improvment for me to become a true fan. Afterall, he has only scored 5 in 49 games and as a set piece taker, i feel it should be higher. Murray has 8 in 28 (mainly from free kicks?).

Who delivered the balls for the two goals which came from crosses?

He certainly crosses for Geijo to score.

So a goal and an assist is a good nights work, but it's also what he brings the team with passing and off the ball closing down as well. Like you i was quite skeptical of him on the wing and even more when he was put in a more central role, but i must say it does seem to be paying off.

Yeates also put over the cross from which Deeney scored the winner against Wolves. Just a handful of quality crosses in a game can justify him playing. After all a certain Beckham made a career out of 2 tricks - a cross and a free-kick.

We should be grateful that we have someone who can deliver like Yeates can. It's not very often we get wide players of the calibre of Cally & Barnes who did so much more.

    Thanks for the link OFH.

As for Yeates I reckon he has improved significantly under GFZ.

Yeates, oh Yeates, my last game at the vic was last season a 1-1 draw with Birghton. I had been to a few before and I could understand why him, Iwelumo and Garner got a run in the team. Had we become that bad I thought...

To be fair, I called for him to go. He has been improving dramatically, it just shows what a new manager can do to some players. Fair play to hima nd humble pie for me.

OFH thanks for the onion bag collection, great viewing. My mate might have to pay up his bet, depends how the second 'leg' goes agains his beloved owls !! :)

My optimism is looking at the other end of the table, perhaps it's a bit too soon for that.

Yeates seems to be a very different player under GFZ who seems to have got the best out of him for what ever reason I don't particularly care. He seems to play much better in the central role, if memory serves is where he played at Spurs! but don't quote me on that;) as he was only a youngster then.
Yeates could be what we have been looking creatively<yikes> We shall see but let's not crucify him because of what he has been like, it is what he is doing now that matters IMHO! Also what he could do for us in the future!

yeates was pretty much out the door under SD, he was miserable at the end of the season, and keeping himself away from the team...very ready to be moved on. He's a different player. He is obviously enjoying his football and puts in a good day's work most of the time. Yes, he's not the best corner taker, but we have FF now, so that's not the end of the world...he's worth having on the pitch mostly. Let's face it, we have worse players...Dicko looked very shaky in his cameo performance last night...i wonder what will happen with him!

I think I now have to officially eat my words. when Gianfranco took over I was a serious doubter on the basis that we should have kept Sean Dyche and if a change had to be made it would have been better to have an english manager with pedigree in the Championship. It's still early days of course but he's not doing too badly is he?!

Has Yeates really improved? Or are his skills and talents being utilised more efficiently by Zola?

Under Dyche, as a winger, he was rubbish. He always liked to try and beat a man, but you could always see his attempts were very haphazard, so he would undoubtedly lose the ball. He also doesn’t have that pace or acceleration we want and expect wingers to have. Now, in a more central role, his purpose is very different.

His work rate certainly hasn't improved. He is as committed and passionate as he was last season, when his form wasn't great.

From what I have seen of him this season (admittedly, a very limited amount), he still makes the same mistakes. It is just now, he is in a position where he is able to do what he does best. He might give the ball away a couple of times, but he will also get in a selection of decent crosses, and judging by Tuesday, shots too. I don't believe he is meant for a frantic, energetic role, but one where he has more time to think.

He isn't that bad, not Prem quality but he isn't playing there! Certainly not as bad as a guy sat behind me in the Rookery thinks who was short finals for a corona everytime Yeates got the ball. Bit of Credit to Zola for finding an effective position for him.
