Hi Gasheads So then, our 1st choice Keeper and Defence have been selected for the Gas NOT606 dream team! Now on to your favourite gas: CENTRAL MIDFIELDERS. This will be tough for me personally as there are so many midfielders down the years who are my favourites. The TWO that gets the most nominations will be in the 1st team of the gas not606 dream team. The players who gets the 3rd and 4th most nominations will be on the subs list. I will do a thread for each position in a 4-4-2 formation so in this thread please select your favourite TWO CENTRAL MIDFIELDERS only Starting 11 so far: --------------------------- NIGEL MARTIN ------------------------- HARRY BAMFORD - ANDY TILSON - STEVE YATES - VAUGHAN JONES RW ----------------- RCM ----------------- LCM ---------------- LW --------------------- RCF ----------------- LCF -------------------- subs so far: GK: JIM EADIE RB: IAN ALEXANDER LB: ANDY GURNEY CB: STUART TAYLOR CB: STEVE ELLIOTT CM: CM: RW: LW: CF: CF: Reference: Keeper thread: Click here Right Back thread: Click here Left Bck thread: Click here Centrebacks thread: Click here
Really difficult when you're also thinking 'old money'. In the old 5-3-2 the one in the middle of the '3' was the centre half. The inside forwards probably qualify...but then was Dai Ward CM? Questions, questions, questions...................
all i can say is what 2 players to go CM. using a 442 formation. 1 CM can be defensive and the other attacking. or both attacking CM's or both defensive CM's. the choice is yours as its your favourite 2 individuals
Early shout for David Williams http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Williams_(Welsh_footballer) 66 goals from midfield in 352 games. One of the most creative CMs I've seen at Rovers, and if he had stayed might have gone on to be one our most successful managers. Still thinking about the other one!
David Williams and Geriant Williams get my vote. Both played over 100 games for Rovers then went on to greater things. And I'm pretty sure that they both played in Rovers sides that made it to the second tier. Ian Holloway was more of a winger - don't really remember him as a central midfield player, although I'm sure he would have played there from time to time.
Tony Pulis, Marcus Browning and Chris Lines stood out from the crowd too. Interesting, really because Browning and Lines got loads of stick. I think these must be difficult boots to fill, and Rovers haven't found many gems in these positions.
Wiki says Ollie played mainly on the right side of midfield. I definitely remember him swinging in the crosses...
He did for a while but Boris played wide right most of the time. Olly also played CM alongside Ray Wilkins at QPR
i still havent worked out my 1st choice yet so many good ones.... ollie (i only seen him in CM from early 90's), campbell, waddock (my family knew him outside football so he is a favourite that way), oh arr hes a latvian astafjevs, ginger nut disley and browning with others as well in the list. i might take a few days on this one.
Frankie Prince was a great ball winner and was there forever...13 years - right through the 70s- and over 360 appearances.
Right, I've 'ad a fink. We've been blessed over the years with some very good CMs. I think back to Wayne and Bryn Jones, and perhaps further to wingers and inside forwards who would track back.....Ray Mabbutt and George Petherbridge. But if this is to be the BEST side we need that tough tackling no-nonsense player who can get hold of a game, with a more creative player alongside him. So I'll stick with David Williams and put Frankie Prince with him.
After careful consideration I wish to change my choice to David Williams and Frankie Prince. Sorry Ollie but I clean forgot about Frankie P
