I know how you feel yorkie after the storms last winter we were flooded in the basement and had water coming through the roof via some damage to the chimney!!, the water hit the main fuse box upstairs, which knocked out the pump in the cellar<grr>

We must have caught the tailend of the storm the other night, but up in Poitiers there were 49mm of rain in an hour. Not only rain but hailstones as well.

The pictures in the press show that there was a huge amount of damage with buildings flooded and stone walls washed down. One baker was in the middle of his preparation for the night, lost his power for three hours and had to throw all of his goodies away.

When we holiday'd in France we used to love the early evening storms - they were so intense and one year near Grasse we had a house on a hill and could see the lightning flashing all around us - magnifique

We really need some rain to kill off all of these forest fires. We are losing hundreds of acres of beautiful forest and countryside along with all the wild life to these fires - it is heart breaking.

I am afraid that some of the fires that occur annually down south are often started by trainee firemen. After such destruction there always seems to be one of them in court. We have very strict rules about bonfires and from May to October you have to comply with all sorts of rules if you want one.

Two years ago I was in the mountains of Corsica where the wooded areas were just charcoal stumps projecting from the ground. If you looked around however, you could see signs of regeneration everywhere and that was only 9 months after the fires.

    Evening all

Pleasant day watching cricket at the Rose Bowl...nothing exciting just the gentle rhythms of county cricket. Helps to pass the time until next season.

Many years ago Theo I watched an entire three day game at Hove between Sussex and Essex. Laid back in my deckchair with the sun shining down it was all very gentle until the tide turned. It was quite unbelievable how the ball would start to move around in the air and batsmen who had looked very comfortable suddenly appeared to turn into novices.

I remember when Northants played a home game at Tring and Alan Lamb cutting loose with several sixes one of which went through the opposition chairmans car windscreen:) The Bar served Fullers and Brakspears as well!
