Gas managers looks ahead to the Wycombe match....

Rovers’ boss Mark McGhee has described this Saturday’s game against Wycombe Wanderers as one of his side’s most important games of the season to date.

“It’s the game we have in hand on a number of teams above us and gives us a chance to improve our points total and, maybe, put our season to date in a little bit more perspective.

“We are reaching the point where we should start to see the return of some of our players who have been injured. I think we are coming to a point where we start to get a stronger team out on the pitch, and that we have an opportunity to start making progress.

“A breakthrough at Wycombe, therefore, would be a fantastic launch pad for that and I think I view the game as being so important because it represents a big opportunity for us.

“It’s not a big game for any other reason than that, and if we can go to Adams Park and win then it could really set us rolling.”

The original fixture was, of course, abandoned back in August when Rovers were leading 3-1 but the manager feels that we must put that behind us.

“It was hugely disappointing for all of us that day and we were as disappointed as our supporters, who were, as always, superb. However, regardless of how the decision to call the game off was made, it was just one of those things and we have to take that on the chin.

“There’s no doubt, though, that we can also look back on that game and take some confidence from our performance that day, and not forget it.”

Victory on Saturday would not only allow Rovers to close the gap on the clubs above them, but put them within ten points of a play off place, something the manager would be happy with.

“If we go into the New Year only ten points off the play offs, then I’ll be quietly satisfied.”

The players most likely to be in contention for a return on Saturday are as follows; “I am anticipating, though not yet certain, that we might have Matt Gill, Matt Lund, Tom Parkes, David Clarkson and Fabian Broghammer available to us. The return of those five would mean that we would have a stronger squad available to us than we had last Saturday.

“Their return would give everyone a boost, because they are important players for us. It not only gives us the option of fielding a stronger starting lineup, but also strengthens the options available to us from the bench. Having so many more players available means that the whole picture improves.”

The time to judge the strength of the squad will be when the manager has a fully fit squad available to him.

“I think that’s the case and, as I’ve already said, I think we have a decent team within this squad. If we can also squeeze the best out of the likes of Tom Eaves as well, then I think we have the makings of a competitive team in this division but we have to get them out there.”

Apparently it's going to be a late kick off so as not to clash with something.

    TEAM NEWS

Wycombe striker Jo Kuffour has recovered from an ankle ligament problem and could feature against his former club.

Midfielder Matt Spring (calf) is also set to return while defender Charles Dunne is available after suspension.

Bristol Rovers welcome back Tom Parkes and David Clarkson from injury, while Matthew Lund and Garry Kenneth have both been passed fit.

Midfielder Wayne Brown misses out after being sent off against Bradford.

Saturday's meeting is a rearranged match after the original game, held on 25 August, was controversially abandoned with Rovers leading 3-1.

The game was suspended because of heavy rain, and it was eventually called off on 66 minutes after lightning hit the Dreams Stand at Adams Park.

Rovers questioned the decision and lodged an official complaint to the Football League but their appeal was unsuccessful.

    VIEW FROM THE TRAINING GROUND

Bristol Rovers manager Mark McGhee told BBC Radio Bristol:

"It's three points we feel like we should have had but we are going to have to earn them again.

"We're probably in better shape going into the game on Saturday and we're ready for it.

"We have players coming back so hopefully we are moving out of the injury wilderness.

"We're optimistic we'll have a strong squad available and we can do a good job."
