Newcastle united this season so far have been a mix of very short very well played spells of games with the majority of the time full is mistakes and seemingly lost chicken. My players of the season so far are santon. Taylor. Ba. Ben Arfa. Nobody else is hitting there performance levels in my eyes. Cabaye probs due to injury ofc. I am growing rather tired of some of you fair weather supporters not getting to grips with the situation we are in. Yes we are on a run of bad form. Yes players and the team is crippled. Yes we now have uncertainty in a manager (creates pressure) lets hope pardew thrives. I urge every supporter to show extreme support. I do not feel any player deserves to be booed this season so far. As much as i do not like what i have seen. 13 players injured. That's 13 new signings over the next couple weeks Can we win in Europe. Why not? Can we still qualify for Europe without winning it? Very possibly All we need is cisse to start scoring with BA and in the saints department i have never seen them play so well together. Cisse has never looked more threatening all season. but no delivery. I cant wait to see our full team out again. we are going to finish strong. Mark my words.
I still think finishing 5th is a possibility, but it's look decreasingly possible every game we play. We just need to scrap what ever point we can get until January, and hope we sign a few players and really push for the top 7. We also need to hope that only big clubs get into the finals of the cups.
We won't be the only team that signs players in January so I'm not sure why people suddenly think we'll go marching up the league once the window is open??? It also won't matter who we sign, unless we tempt Jan Koller & Christian Vieri out of retirement as they'd get more out of our long ball game than our current two strikers. Only a change in approach will improve things, we have good players and need the manager to be brave and encourage the team to play the ball out from the back. Confidence in the team is clearly low, even Pardew looked like he was feeling sorry for himself in his post match interview on Sunday. We need a horrible, scrappy win on Wednesday to get us going, lets hope we can achieve that and that Pardew can help us kick on from there.
The most realistic hope for this club is that we can get a couple of players in and get to a mid-table finish with possibly a lucky cup run (zero chance of winning one). Then the further hope is that we can recover sufficiently to put in a better shift next season.
if we finish 10th then i expect us to be in the semis-final in europe. if we dont get past 1/4 then our aim should be 6th. Our team on paper.... is that good. So they need achieve that, regardless. If i did not achieve it in my job id be sacked. and pardew aint all to blame. I dont beleive jan will bring anymore then 2 new faces. a defender and a good attacking midfielder. We will see. personally do not think we need anyone but a cb. Even that doesnt matter if all are fit. Our team could win the title if all played as good as they can.
Not too fussed about an attacking midfielder, would much rather see a striker come in and actually make something of our long ball football. If we're going to constantly play it, we should atleast do something with it. I can't see Pardew changing the way we play any time soon, didn't at Southampton wont here. So if he can sign an classic Centre Forward then I'd be happy.
Wouldn't surprise me. But I just can't see that happening, no way will Liverpool want to just give him back. We need to sort something out soon though.
I agree, it looks as if he's got his game plan so may as well go after players that will make it effective.
I think you'd struggle to find an article that sums it up better; http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/12040/8286209/Out-of-Toon Spot on in so many respects, formation, set-plays, transfer dealings. No Chronicle-esque conspiracy theories, no hyperbole, just level-headed facts. Sums it up pretty well.
Decent read that, and highlights why some people are getting on Pardew's back rather than accepting his excuses of injuries and suspensions. Only time will tell whether those that want him to remain in a job are correct, but from that piece there are a lot of things he can change even with the injuries we have...the long ball, set pieces and 4-4-2 for starters.
And I'm growing tired of people misusing the term 'fair weather'. No one's turned their back on the team - The fans are still going every week. That's evidenced by the boos, which are simply a way of saying 'we expect better'. And they're right to do so. Why is the blame always on the fans? They're the ones paying ridiculous amounts of money to go to games. The reason we're so **** now is the fault of the players and the management, and they're the ones who need to turn things around and give people something to cheer for. Simply turning up is not enough.
yeah that article is very good ! sums it all up anyone got pardews email address? going to forward this to him
I would be happy finishing above 15th. We will not qualify for Europe in the league. I doubt we will win FA Cup/ Europa League.
If only. Maybe we're all daft and it's not as 'easy' as that, but if you asked someone to write down an Arsenal formation, they'd do it. If you crossed out any one of eleven names, they'd simply write another name in, not fck about with the formation or tactics, right? What we did last season was remain kind of flexible in our approach, and surprised a lot of teams. Sometimes they'd expect 5 in the middle, and we'd throw three up front, so we had that. This season surprise is gone, people know our players, so it makes sense to me to just play a theme every week, with everyone knowing - more or less - their jobs. If we haven't got the personnel to do it - Ba on the left, for example - then that's Pardew's fault for not sorting it out. But when someone like Mourinho says you need two per position, that doesn't mean you need players who can do 3, 4 or 5 different jobs adequately - that means having a formation, a first XI, with decent specialist replacements in each position. What I further don't understand is that we HAVE that, but aren't doing it? GK: Krul/Elliott RB: Simpson/Raylor LB: Santon/Fergie CB: Colo/Perch CB: Saylor/Willo CDM: Tiote/Bigi CDM: Anita/Gutierrez CM: Cabaye/Vuckic RWF: Ben Arfa/Obertan LWF: Ba/Sammyobi CF: Cisse/Ameobi Then just delete as appropriate and fill up your subs with the (barely) adequate reserves FatAsh left us with - Marv, Amalfi, Abeid, Campbell, Tav, Gosling, Good, and so on. Here's the edited version taking into account current injuries and suspensions: GK: Krul/Elliott RB: Simpson/Tav LB: Santon/Fergie CB: Willo/Good CB: Colo/Perch CDM: Tiote/Bigi CDM: Anita/Abeid CM: Gutierrez/Amalfitano RWF: Sammyobi/Obertan LWF: Ba/Marveaux CF: Cisse/Campbell Scratching around, for sure, but I only have to pick 16 of the above with clear definition as to how the team plays out. It just seems logical and I can't help but scratch my head as to why it's nearly Christmas and we haven't done it, nor do we look like we will do it.
very good article. i think that we can turn it around but this hoofball stuff really really needs to stop.
Any reason why? We are 6 + 7 points behind both those positions. We haven't played well all season, we look absolutely dreadful and we also have a lot of injuries. I really cannot see us getting many points at all from now until Jan/ feb.
