Here are 30 football manager quotes, some classic, some very famous, some just famous, and a few slightly more obscure, but all worth reading. Can you put the face to the quote.

Here´s the list of those who uttered the following famous words, but just who said what?

( Joe Kinnear, Kevin Keegan, Glenn Hoddle, Matt Busby, Don Revie, Brian Clough, Ron Atkinson, Harry Redknapp, Bob Paisley, Bertie Vogts, Graham Taylor, Chris Turner, Bobby Robson, David O´Leary, Arsene Wenger, Gianluca Vialli, Bill Shankly, Howard Wilkinson, Ruud Gullit, Gerry Francis, Ian Holloway)

    1. ´Rome wasn´t built in a day, but I wasn´t on that particular job´

    2. ´If I walked on water, my accusers would say it´s because I can´t swim´

    3. ´I couldn´t be more chuffed if I were a badger at the start of the mating season´

    4. ´Mind you, I´ve been here during the bad times too - one year we came second´

    5. (said of Eddie Gray) ´When he plays on snow, he doesn´t leave any footprints´

    6. ´Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I´m very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that´

    7. ´I was just saying to your colleague, the referee has just got me the sack, thank him ever so much for that won´t you?´

    8. ´Of course I didn´t take my wife to see Rochdale as an anniversary present. It was her birthday. Would I have got married in the football season? Anyway it was Rochdale reserves´

    9. I´ve told the players we need to win so that I can have the cash to buy some new ones´

    10. (talking on Sir Alex Ferguson) ´You can tell him now, we´re still fighting for this title, and I´ll tell you honestly, I will love it if we beat them, love it´

    11. ´At a football club there´s a holy trinity, the players, the manager, and the supporters. Directors don´t come into it. They are only there to sign the cheques´

    12. ´I tried to watch the Tottenham game on the television in my hotel room yesterday, but I fell asleep´

    13. It was a very simple team talk. All I used to say was "Whenever possible, give the ball to George Best" ´

    14. ´If God had wanted us to play football in the sky, He´d have put grass up there´

    15. (on Rene Higuita) ´We´ve got absolutely no interest in him. We´ve got a goalkeeper with a better trick - he stops the ball with his hands´

    16. (on Ian Dowie) ´Judging by the shape of his face, he must have headed a lot of balls´

    17. ´The only way to stop Thierry Henry? with a gun!´

    18. ´Football hooligans? Well there are 92 club chairmen for a start´

    19. (said of Ruud Gullit) ´It was like watching an 18-year old, playing in a game for 12-year olds´

    20. ´I´m out at the moment, but should you be the chairman of Barcelona, AC Milan, or Real Madrid, I´ll get straight back to you. The rest can wait´

    21. ´There´s only two types of manager. Those who´ve been sacked and those who will be sacked in the future´

    22. ´The only relaxed boss is Big Ron. He had me drinking pink champagne - before the match´

    23. (on signing Rob Lee) ´I told him Newcastle was nearer to London than Middlesborough, and he believed me´

    24. (on Gordon Strachan) ´There´s nobody fitter at his age - except maybe Raquel Welch´

    25. ´What I said to them at half-time would be unprintable on the radio´

    26. ´Home advantage, gives you an advantage´

    27. ´We must have had 99 per cent of the game. It was the other 3 per cent that cost us the match´

    28. ´We didn´t underestimate them. They were a lot better than we thought´

    29´. ´I was a young lad when I was growing up´

and finally the most ´putting of foot in it´ of them all

    30. ´Very few of us have any idea of what life is like living in a golfdfish bowl, except of course, for those of us who are goldfish´

    <cheers> rbf :)

3 may be Ian Hollaway? He seems the sort of manager who would say something dirty like that!

Also, great little game RBF! <cheers>

There are several here with more than one quote actually, they were just too good to leave out. :)

I think 9. is my personal favourite, for dry humour, and for total inaneness it has to be 25. or 30.
