On a vaguely related note, is Earnshaw still our record signing? (apologies if this has already been mentioned)
Yes, very suprised aswell tbh. I imagine it could change soon, maybe as early as Jan if the Danny Graham rumors are true
As has already been mentioned much will depend on the player. If he is happy to earn a third of what he could earn elsewhere, has no ambition to play in the Champions League and his wife would prefer living in a lovely part of the Country rather than earn an extra £1m a year he will stay. If an offer of around £10m comes in from a top Club and Ruddy puts on his parts then he will be off. I still think Bunn was bought to cover the possible departure of Ruddy but that can only be a personal opinion.
Basic rules of contract. I'm not saying he is on the same level. But a player on a 5 year contract is worth a lot more than a player of the same quality on on a one year contract. Then you take into account the loss the club will have in losing that player. If they are a reserve, then the fee will be small. If the player is their top scorer the fee will be a lot bigger. Ruddy is on a 4 year contract with the option of another year, and he is easily could be the difference between staying up or going down. The difference in the cost of staying up or going down is massive, so the transfer fee will be big.
If John Ruddy is worth £10 Million I just wonder how much Kevin Keelan or Paul Cooper would be worth in today's money!
You two must be older than I thought if you can remember "The Man in Black!" I agree though, none better!
Paul Cooper - was he that little short arse you had in goal for about 50 years? If he is the one I am thinking about he was good at saving penalties, couldn't keep out a lob and was bought and sold for pennies.
Ruddy would be worth about 10 million because I think he has 5 years left on his contract, plus he is an England international. He's a good GK, so I think he's worth that. But honestly, I can't see him going any time soon.
That's him! What he lacked in height he made up for in reflexes and agility. When you had Beattie and Hunter playing in front you didn't need height.
