Yeah £6 Million I remember! I agree with Supers when he says that a player's value is based on what he means to the club he plays for and in your case I suspect that he is almost priceless. You are in the box seat as he is on a long contract and he seems content to stay but one day he might yearn for a top 4 club with the guarentee of champions league football. I just think that £15 Million is way too much even in this over inflated market.
Not sure about the reasonings for the Champions League, Liverpool were not in it. Can't think of many expensive British players who went to Champions League clubs. I think its more to do with managers being stupid, old fashioned and playing a particular style which is safer. The teams who prefer to play football go for the European route.
Okay on reflection £6 Million is on the low side so it would be something like £9 or £10 Million but I can't see even the top 6 clubs in the Premiership paying more than £10M for an English Keeper when there are plenty of foreign keepers that would come for less.
Producing Goalkeepers is the one thing England are good at. None of whom have played for Ipswich for the last 5 years
He is easily one of our best players, there will be clubs circling like vultures enquiring about him, now the question we all need to ask is how our leadership acts in these situations? Anything less then 20 million would be an absolute piss take, so we need the board to be strong we're better off financially, we do not need to sell our best players to improve our finances because if we keep in this league we improve them anyway.
If they want him that much they'll spend that amount of money, I don't like the idea of some big club giving us their pocket change and let them think they've got away with it, Ruddy is a decent player regardless of where he plays his saved us points this season. Would you pay 20 million for Stewart Downing?
i wouldn't pay £5 million for downing. £20 million for a goalkeeper is a joke price. I think that would make him the second most expensive keeper of all time behind Buffon? that's certainly not value for money.
The problem i have is that the value is aimed at the position of the playerand the club he plays for! The majority of supporters outside of this club wouldnt have scooby of how important JR is to this football club! He's a massive character in the dressing room, he is a huge commanding figure in the 18yard box. He's a gardener and every single attribute of his is full of quality, i've never had such belief and confidence in a keeper for many'a year... How many clubs can seriously say that!!?? He's young for a goalkeeper, between 10 and 15 years still for him to go and he can stay at the top no question, so when we are club that dont need to sell, a player thats on a long term contract and is very happy at this club, if a player wants him that bad then they will simply have to pay over the odds for him and some clubs just simply do that!
Lets not compare with anyone transfer undertaken by Liverpool while King Kenny was in charge. As soon as someone mentions Downing or Carroll, the whole point loses credability.
No harm but Norwich are not a team who can turn down decent offers for players. 7-8 million would be reasonable imo.
The point is Sean, he is worth what we want for him ,that somebody else is willing to pay! £20M minimum!
