Is he the answer or the problem? Isnt a forward but stops us going with 2 orthodox strikers. Isnt a midfielder or a winger but cant play there. If we dropped him would he sulk? Is he untouchable?
I don't think we need to drop him he is our most productive player with bags of skill.there has to be and must be a place for him in our team.the team must be formed around him I feel he should play right side and Johnson left
I agree Vince, we need to find a settled position and that should be the wing. I'm still open to the idea of trying him in CM with Catts for a few games to see how he does there.
I have thought about him in centre midfield but I think he can do a better job coming in from wide and causing problems as app posed to skinning the full back and getting in behind although that would be nice aswell
Against QPR id play him right wing and have him interchange with Johnson. Sess skinned their left back a few times on Saturday and sees alot of the ball when he's wide
Ah Cest, finally you are asking the question, i have been asking fir quite some time... The enigma of Sess, a talent no doubt, it's just that we are the wrong team for him, and it is helping neither parties.... To what team he would be best suited, iv''e no idea...but his talents are wasted, and try as we may it's difficult to know where to play him, a striker he certainly ain't
It's been nagging at me for months mate. He is a classy player but as witnessed with some of the replies here, I think we are preoccupied with finding him a place to play, even when he isn't doing anything. I'm not even close to pigeon holing him and think if 's more our problem now than our solution. If we sold him and used the money to put towards buying a pacy attacking central midfielder AND another striker, I think wed be better off. Sessegnon 's the sole season we play 1 orthodox striker, to accommodate him in the team but he will never be a striker, a winger or that key midfielder imo.
Most of the time I agree cest but can;t about Sessegnon - he's been excellent the last 2 weeks and think he is definitely needed in our side. We played well Saturday and he certainly wasn't a problem - was causing them a lot of problems in defence and, if he keeps his form of the last couple of weeks then he'll be an asset to us. - Just my opinion like!!
Trouble is mate, he is a creator not a taker of goals (he isn't much more than a 6 or 7 goals a season man imo) and we only have fletcher to score the bulk. If we bought a proper striker and a Cahill style midfielder using his sale money, I think we would be better off. I don't dislike or not rate sessegnon but I am seeing him more as our problem not our solution that's all.
Sess is the one of the best players I've seen play in red and White and currently the best player in out team. Without him we would be relegation fodder, ask any other teams fans who they are worried about when we play them and it's always one name cropping up. He can win us game on his own and in no way is he a problem.
All about opinions mate and I'm going to agree to disagree with you on this one - he has scored 2 in 2 now (including a proper poachers goal at the weekend) and had a hand in almost everything good going forward on Saturday - must keep him and I don;t think O'Neill will play 2 up top in a 4-4-2 style - Sessegnon is our "Second Striker" if you see what I mean so I think it'd be pointless selling him as he is such a good player and you could not replace with anyone as good or better for the money we'll get
Just as a thought. If we sold sessegnon for say £15m and bought say Agbonlahor for £10m and Bent or similar style of poacher for £10m or £12m for only a £6 or 7m layout we would have a far better attacking unit with pace in midfielder (Agbonlahor destroyed us with his pace) and 2 top strikers in a 442 formation imo. Just a thought.
He is having to do to much on his own. I also think he is having to do to much chasing back when we lose the ball. We should be organising our attacking play around him. Far to often others stand still watching, whilst he is running with the ball. A little bit more effort from others would make a huge difference. I'm sick of saying this our players aren;t making enough of an effort to make themselves available for a pass or wall pass. The basics. I have seen glimmers of AJ and Sess bonding. This isn't the time to be talking about getting rid of our best flair player. Without the likes of Sess we will turn into Stoke mark 2 and fail miserably at it.
Not necessarily MR. We might become even more attacking and have more flair with more pace and proper strikers. For instance, Ba can be bought for £7m and Agbonlahor for £10m or £12m. Both of those would add to our potency and flair not detract from it? No?
