With Pardew stating that Wayne Routledge "isn't good enough to play for Newcastle United", do you consider our dome-headed French flyer as any better?

Having watched WR playing most weeks for Swansea, he has looked pretty good to me - Obertan is currently being kept off the right wing by Sammy Ameobi?

Is Obertan better than Routledge? Or has Pardew simply got it all wrong?

Both ****e. Routledge has done better since left but he was awful when here and thats what we have to go off. Suits Swansea's game.

Obertan's been injured for the last couple of weeks which is why Sammy seems to be ahead of him.

Personally, I believe that Obertan is being played out of position and would be much better suited to a central role.

Just curious but is that an actual quote from Pardew?

I think they're about the same ability wise. They show a flash of brilliance and then do nothing for 6 games <doh> <grr>

Neither of them are good enough really, both too hit and miss.
Routledge seems to have progressed better since he left, and Obertan is...
    Well Obertan!

    Height+weight - Obertan X10
Ability with football - Routledge X20
    Pace - Obertan
    Work-ethic - Routledge
    Skills - Routledge. Endlessly doing a step-over isn't a skill Obertan <doh>
Overall - Yeah Routledge is a poor-man's Aaron Lennon, but he's still fricking miles better than Obertan in my estimation as a footballer. WP says he was **** here but that's an exaggeration in the extreme, because frankly he was unlucky he's not really Pardew's cup of tea... He was fantastic in the championship and showed more than Obertan ever will in the premier league. When we signed Obertan everyone was saying "better Wayne Routledge" or "Wayne with more potential"... "Get stuffed" I kindly said to those who said that then, and "Get stuffed" is what I kindly say of the same comments now!!!

Give me Routledge over Obertan any day.

Obertan hasn't changed my opinion of him since even before he was here, still awful.

I'd rather we just sold Wayne and bought a good winger. For 3m you could have had Tom Ince at the time <yikes>

Routledge just couldn't fit into our system, he was a good player, and he's showing it at Swansea.

Agree that both are rubbish. A lot of us seem to forget how poor Routledge was with us in the league. Of course he looked good in the championship, hell even Jonas looked a monster there and Enrique was never challenged. Totally diff story in the league though. Routledge couldn't beat defenders, couldn't pick out a pass, was never as fast as Overran. At the very least Overran looks committed at times(admittedly, once every six games) and can hustle back to win a ball, can sometimes challenge for headers(with an obvious advantage given his head), and delivers an end product once every 6 months, scores the odd goal... I'd always take Overran over Wayne "anonymous" Routledge.
