Possibly, but Lloris was stood what, 6ft away?? short of putting a megaphone up to Caulks lughole, its hard to imagine he couldn't hear it!
What did he actually call, though? His English is pretty good, but he might have slipped up and used the wrong word.
I think it was either "clear" or "leave". Like Notso said, the distance between the two should've meant Caulker would've heard it clearly. Nonetheless it was an unfortunate mistake, luckily it didn't cost us and bar that, it was probably our best 90 minute performance of the season. So glad it was against West Ham too.
Keeper should never shout clear it, that should be the defender's default position. Keeper only needs to shout if he wants the defender to depart from his normal game (i.e. to not clear it). Therefore assume Lloris shouted leave it and Caulker ignored (or didn't hear) him. All part of the learning curve for the young man, and thankfully did no harm. And also hopefully won't happen again now.
It shouldn't be able to be misheard, its seems nitpicky, but it did result in a goal, could've been decisive in another game. The rule when I played was 'away' if the keeper wants the defenders to deal with it, or 'keepers', and if as a defender you hear that, all bets are off and you do nothing!
Defoe may have grabbed three points for us. We started out well, but after 20 minutes, we looked as unlikely to score as West Ham did. No one had a clue what to do, especially Hudd when he tried a forty yarder. West Ham was halfway home to squeezing the life out of the game and grabbing a point, maybe three if they were lucky. I was really impressed with our new pickup, you know, the one with "Dempsey" on his back. I haven't seen him play before. It was good to see such a good performance with a Sandro-Huddlestone pairing. I still have my doubts about Huddlestone, but it looks like he's going to be getting a lot of starts. What's with Bale and posts? He's had at least three that didn't go in this year, and a couple that did, including one yesterday. Does he need to aim an inch or two inside the post rather than at the post itself? Trixter, I actually think if everyone's healthy we have about as good a squad as we had last year. But we've been riddled by injuries. Losing Dembele, who so far has been the key to our fortunes, has been particularly harsh. I appreciate your attitude, and wish you (if not your team) well.
We have an option to buy at 17m which I don't think we will be going for. Even if you add that on our starting 11 yesterday has a cost of 27m. Still a considerable deficit between the cost of the 2 teams. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that by the way. The value of the squads will be reflected by the teams finishing positions which will be around 5th and 12th i would guess. I'm just merely pointing out the gulf in class between the squads due to your bigger investment.
You did bring on a player who cost more than you're claiming your entire first XI cost though, Trixter! As Nolan cost £3.5m, Maiga cost £5m and Reid cost £3m, you're slightly underestimating the fees for your side. The other way to look at it would be that you had a net spend of about £18m this summer, whereas we made a profit of about £6m.
Im just talking about the cost comparison of the 2 starting 11's. Very rough estimates but 70m and 10m is about right. 27m if you want to throw in Carrols potential fee. Throw in another 3m if you want for loan fess etc and make it 30m. That's still well under half of what your 11 cost. We bought on Jarvis(7m with add ons) you bought on Dembele which just made the gulf even bigger. Of course we had a bigger net spend in the summer. We were newly promoted after all and we had a very weak squad before the window opened. All I'm saying is the difference in quality is down to the spending power. And that's not me having a pop, just me stating fact. There would be something seriously wrong if you weren't quite a bit better than us at the moment.
I wasn't sure if we were that good or we caught the Hammers on a bad day. But we would have had a couple more goals of the season if the shots hadn't hit the woodwork. If we can beat Liverpool by the same score we might, finally,be coming together.I do hope so..... COYS.
We certainly weren't at our best but you outclassed us generally. If we had held on to half time at 0-0 I think we would have held out for the draw as our defence tends to grow more and more resolute as a game wears on but that wouldn't really have been a fair result. I think we would have offered more going forward if it weren't for our injuries to key attacking players. We have a thin squad and our cover isn't good enough. However that's football and all clubs have to deal with absences so not really an excuse. I don't think you are at the heights you were at under Redknapp but you looked pretty good and I think you will be top 6 at least. Our fans or players didnt cover themselves in glory yesterday. A dark day for my club but we move on.
Not until the bannings have finished and the FA have completed their investigation you don't. Not with the focus on racism in football as it is at the moment and with how badly caught out your fans will be by the time the video and audio evidence has been examined. Hopefully a large portion of your fans that think these kinds of chants are acceptable will be banned and we can look forward to a better atmosphere in our games.
Well we do move on. Banning orders have already begun and the club will be fined no doubt and rightly so. That doesn't mean that we as a club can't move on from this sorry episode straight away. I am genuinely surprised about the moral high ground spurs fans are taking about this I must say. You of all teams know full well what's its like to have the clubs name dragged down by chanting. 2 wrongs don't make a right of course but I don't accept criticism from your fans given your history.
We have as much right to criticise the fans chanting as you do. You're quickly going to find that you're mistaken if you think people will be moving on from it too for the reasons I expressed, I fail to see what's wrong saying that. No one's blaming every Hammers fan but the best way to seperate yourselves from the arseholes involved is to support action against them and not pretend like this issue should be brushed away after one day and 2 arrests.
Yeah, I can remember that time when a load of our fans gave Fascist salutes, hurled anti-Semitic abuse and mocked the victims of a vile, near-fatal attack. Oh, wait, no I can't, as it's never happened. I personally thought that the Adebayor chants were distasteful and, if not racist, then at least xenophobic. I wasn't bothered about the vast majority of the stuff aimed at Judas though, as it was neither racist nor homophobic, as he tried to claim. Comparing either to yesterday's display and the persistent behaviour of a minority of West Ham fans is ludicrous, though. A comparison to your chants about Defoe would've been more accurate, but either there you come off worse, frankly. "You should've died with your brother", when his cousin was on your bench?
I am certainly not brushing anything off. I have said various times on here that we will be punished and rightly so. What I don't accept is spurs fans calling us a disgrace given some of the very public cases of sick chanting by your own lot. I do not need to cut and paste newspaper reports on here because you know what I am talking about. These instances were also just a handful and certainly didnt represent the views of your fans in general. We had a section of our support let us down yesterday. They represent a tiny fraction of a single per cent of our fan base and although they need to be punished, calling West Ham fans in general a disgrace because of them is absurd. I have had some good debate on this thread about the match and I think I have given a fair assessment of how it played out. I have been drawn into a debate about chanting as I want to defend my club. I have said all I need to say and I will leave it at that. All the best for the rest of the season and I will no doubt be over here in the build up for the return fixture.
What I find amusing are the dipsticks who make anti-black comments yet have the same players(colour wise) playing for them! I guess our black players must be a little darker!!!!!!? and the dipsticks black players must be a little whiter!!!!!!? Gosh! In the 23rd century we might sign a Martian who may be green.I wonder what the dipsticks will make of that?
While I personally didn't like the Judas chants, they were at least founded on footballing reasons. Whether they were racist and/or homophobic or not, they sailed too close to the wind for me. However he was targetted not because of colour and/or alleged lifestyle, but because of the lies he told the club and it's fans. A big difference to what happened on Saturday. The Ade chants are harder to justify, but the git would keep scoring against us .
