Working in the Oil Industry myself this had a profound effect on myself. I go offshore at times and all of us were devastated with what happened. Some people could not go and work offshore again - who could blame them after witnessing that.

    Truly horrific.

It seems to me that there were a lot of disasters in the 80's.

I'm not quite sure if these posts of yours are serious reflections, ER, so at the risk of making a tit of myself.....

I don't have the clearest recollection of the disaster (too young to properly care about anything other than myself), but I remember being wheeched back up to Aberdeen (from Edinburgh) by my distraught mother. A husband of one of her friends got killed and she needed to be with her, apparently. We (me and my three sisters) got dumped with our grandparents and the atmosphere was so desperately silent and sad - my grandfather was heavily involved in the oil industry up there - that I would rather have been anywhere else in the world. Excruciating.

Even though something like this was always bound to happen, the sense of shock appeared to desolate the bereaved - quite naturally - and the wider community as a whole.

Ok I'll come clean I am a WUM.

But yes these are actually serious reflections. Sometimes I think all of us make light of things but we do not actually mean it. If that means I am an arse then so be it but I think we all are at times.

It was a horrible experience for all involved as are all the tragedies I have referred to. One of my wifes best friends was also good friends with one of the guys who lost his life in the helicopter ditching a couple of years back.

So ye I am being serious about these tragic events.

    Fair play.

I wasn't meaning to doubt your sincerity, of course, it's just that I've spent far too much of my life on 606 watching you wind up Liverpool supporters (amongst others). Just thought I'd best check that the same thing wasn't happening here - not that I have any problem whatsoever, fair to say, about people making light of tragedy. I would usually prefer such an approach, in fact. But there we are.

"If that means I am an arse then so be it but I think we all are at times." Agreed. I rarely pass through a day without emphatically proving your point.

I would not blame anyone for doubting my sincerity with some of the drivel I put on here, not a chance at all.

I doubt it myself all the time.

Fair play to you as well.
