I never understood at the time why Bunn signed for us to be understudy to a young England International - if he had stayed at Blackburn then he would soon, if not already, be their No.1. The possible sale of Ruddy always looked a possibility and Reina to Arsenal and Ruddy to Liverpool makes a lot of sense. Money talks and even big Clubs like Arsenal have been forced to let players go when they didn't want to sell. £10m is a lot of money to turn down especially if the player is ambitious and wants to move to a big Club when the opportunity arises.

To teams like Arsenal - who have more foreigners than Englishmen in their squad - paying £15m for a top class player they can call 'home-grown' in their Champions League squad is like a drop in the ocean.

I think it started a few years ago when FIFA were making noises about having to have a certain percentage of home-grown talent in each squad, some of the big boys got a bit concerned and added home-grown players to their shopping list and upped the ante!

No I said if craig went for £9m then Ruddy would be worth more, and no one has yet answered the question of my question of why his nationality will inflate the price. I could produce a list of over priced non english players, how does that answer the question? Your list is of mainly strikers which are virtually always over inflated regardless of natioinallity. All I'm trying to think to about is why should an englsih quality keeper cost more. Hihglighting that prices have increased doesn't answer the question why

I'll give up asking now although I am intrigued

In the real world what is the most we have paid for a player in the last 2 years. Answer that and I think that £10m is a lot of money to NCFC.

As I've already pointed out, Ruddy's contract alone is worth upwards of £5m. When you add his ability, potential, sell-on value and how much English players are worth to teams in Europe, £9m is well below his actual value.

I have no idea why English players are worth more.

If I were a manager I wouldn't touch British players with a barge pole.

British players get managers the sack.

The reason English players go for more money is because they are over hyped by our media.

If we get a big offer for Ruddy I'd not be surprised to see him off. Don't blame him either. Who'd begrudge Ruddy a shot with one of the 'big clubs'. He's clearly enjoying it at Norwich, (a potential player of the season at the rate he's going) and he's a sensible guy who will clearly weigh up the opportunity and make up his own mind. His 5 yr contract with us as someone mentioned earlier will stand for very little if he does decide the move is on. Norwich is still in transition and whilst we're much better off than a couple of years ago, I don't think we're in a position to close our eyes to serious money for players. Especially when we've got some pretty capable back up. Ruddy is brilliant and I hope he's still here in Feb but I'll not think less of him if he makes the decision to jump for the right reasons.

If you were in his shoes and had the chance to go to a team who have been in the champions league for the last 15 seasons, then you'd want to go. It's the perfect chance to show how good he is at the highest level. If there are teams coming in for him not at the highest level and only a small step up I can see him staying though the way he acted about the contract extension and interest last year was extremely positive towards the club and great to see from a player!!

Ultimately, the decision will up to him if the opportunity arises.

I disagree with people who seem keen to let him go at 10m, though. One of the key reasons the defence has improved so much, I think, is because they know they have Ruddy behind them. These days a good goalkeeper isn't just a shot-stopper or someone who makes the right decisions about when to come for the ball, but the player who organises the defence in front of him. Ruddy does that wonderfully in my opinion.

In last weeks AGM, David McNally was keen to point out that Norwich City were no longer a selling club, I guess in the sense that the club does no longer have to sell players to survive in the PL. I would also hope that would mean DM, if approached, plays hard-ball and gets the record transfer fee for a keeper in the PL. I have heard a figure or around £7m but if clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea are prepared to pay ludicrous sums for other English players then I hope to god we can force that figure upwards and quite considerably. Look at the transfer fee money Swansea raked in from Liverpool, I'd have some of that, especially as stated above, we have another keeper or two capable of stepping in to JR big shoes.

I think we have to resign ourselves to the immense probability that we are going to sell him on, and quite likely in the not too distant future. I don't really want to see him go but if he does I want to see some serious money coming in for him - £10m is getting close but maybe add £2-3m more <ok>

Isn't his family all in Cambridge, I had heard that one of the reasons he came Toby's in the first place was to be closer to home..?

I don't think he would want to leave, not when we ate in the PL however, if a lot of money were offered ten the club might want him to go - but I doubt it. We have enough cash.

Think you guys should be looking to get at least 20 million for him.... At the moment I have him as England's no. 1, Hart's been playing below standard recently. Clearly an invaluable player to Norwich and one of the best on his position in the league and he's only going to improve. English players do sell for more and if you sold for 9 million it would be a steal! I'd feel safer with Ruddy between the sticks for Man Utd than De Gea or Lindegaard. Swap??

I think that kind of figure would be very hard to refuse for Norwich City. Would I be happy about it? In one way yes as we do seem to have capable goalies waiting in the wings but don't really want to see him leave for another 2 or 3 seasons. I would love him to become England's No1 while at Carrow Road.

Swap? Not on your life <laugh>
