Yep, it looked really close watching it. The only thing I can think of is that conceivably goal difference could play a part in who stays up...

Gazza man of the match for me , a truly outstanding save in the second half and a great punch in the first half. It's good to see the lad starting to grow in confidence, that error a few weeks would have destroyed some keepers. There is just something about the lad I think Nigel has unearthed a real gem. Yes he still makes mistakes like the blocked kick this afternoon but he will learn and is learning. Best display of the season so far, more of the same Wednesday night please!!

The header when he dived to his right, looked a dead cert goal from where I was watching. The one on one was good too.

Gazza 7-if he played for another team then his time wasting would piss me right off!
Clyne 9-solid, good going forward and at the back.
    Fonte 8-looked calm and composed.
    Yoshida 7-same as Fonte.
    Shaw 8-same as Clyne.
Puncheon 9-what drugs has he been taking?
Cork 8-didn't notice him too much, probably a good thing. Solid display.
Schneiderlin 8-didn't do anything wrong, good performance.
Lallana 8-brilliant skills, should have done better towards the end, good goal.
Ramirez 8-some dodgy controlling but a good game and goal.
Lambert 7-not his best game but still a vital part of the team.
Rodriguez 7-looked sharp, should have got on the scoresheet.
Davis 7-made a bit of an impact.
Hooiveld 6-didn't need to do much.

Great performance and more importantly a clean sheet!

Do you reckon Gazza fancied a one on one with Anita?

I'm confused about Lallana fading at the end. Is this the same guy who was charging down defenders near their own corner flags with two minutes to go?

the things I was most happy about, are that we are winning 50-50 balls and when the ball breaks free we are hungry to win it back, and Ramirez showed he has a backbone and got the better of Tioti in thier physical battle

I'm only really thinking of the poor free kick and where he should have scored the one on one.

I have a feeling the free-kick may have been a miscommunication, we've done a couple of set-pieces where the ball is whacked long past the far post and someone makes a run out wide and tries to knock it across the six-yard box. If we are being hyper-critical we could say that we should have put another three away, then again if it wasn't for the ref and the woodwork, we would have put another three away! Felt somewhat the same against Swansea and QPR, we should have scored 10 or 11 in our last 3, not 6. But those 6 have gotten us 7 points, so I'm not complaining!

The whole team played well today as a cohesive unit and have just got better over the last 3 games. They have confidence and belief they will win and it is starting to show. The defense is much tighter and with a bit of fortune we could have scored 6 today. A clean sheet is a massive bonus and gazza has definitely been subjected to some heavy coaching as he was very good today. A win on wednesday and perhaps we can start looking up not down the league. happy days and well done Nigel

I just got back, too knackered to give ratings but no-one less than a 9, and Puncheon, Clyne, Fonte, Yoshida and Shaw 10. Cork 11. Glad to see Gazzaniga come of age today.

Oh, and Fonte's tackle was right in front of me and he won the ball, no studs showing. Not even a foul. Cisse's a girl.

Gazza - (8) - would have been a 9 if he hadn't smashed that clearance into their player in the 1st half. Has to be said, the lad is a superb shot stopper. Tempted to dock him a mark for still having the rat's tail.....but I'm feeling generous tonight!

Shaw - (7) - solid. Didn't have that much to do if truth be told, but what there was he did well. Can't get over how fast he is. The death knell has sounded for Fox's starting position.

Fonte - (8) - grew 6 inches for today's game, no one was getting by him. Best game for him this year.

Yoshida - (8) - his most assured performance in a Saints shirt, I have previously said he is woeful with the football at his feet, no sign of that today. I read in the match programme that his wife has just moved here after a long time apart, maybe the nookie is doing him good?

Clyne - (8) - get's better every game, and that's from a very decent starting point. Impressive.

Schneiderlin - (7) *- works so hard all game, every game, such a dependable player.

Cork - (8) - can't believe I was so naive to not realise how much we missed him. His tackling seems to have improved since he was injured, figure that one out? His incisive runs from deep help create attacks, and he just seems to create space from nothing.

Lallana - (8) - excellent again for me, deserved his goal and worked tirelessly.

Puncheon - (8) - they just didn't know what to do with him when he broke from midfield, scared them all game.

Ramirez - (9) - absolutely terrified them when he was running on the ball, easiest option was to just take him down, and they seemed to favour this option most of the time. Seems to be back where he was against Villa now. Excited to see what more there is to come.

Lambert - (8) - his knockdowns and lay-offs are priceless.

    Subs

J-Rod - gutted he didn't get his goal, he took his chance so well. Caused them a lot of trouble in the time he was on.
Davis - he's a fantastic option to bring on to see a game out.
Jos - did he touch the ball? Glad to see him get a run out.

Font e's tackle looked good to me.

    Team were excellent

    Adkins was great

    Crowd were brilliant

Could have been six nil comfortably

    Jayrod looked onside.

Officials were completely useless and it is about time the Premier League got a grip.

It was Martin Atkinson. He sent off Rodwell for a perfectly good tackle in last season's Merseyside derby - what did you expect? He's a **** referee and should be demoted.

And yet he managed to be fairly accurate, it appears. I've had this conversation with someone before. If the commentator is a good communicator, it's perfectly possible.
