Big difference.

I like Schumacher, that does not influence me when he makes stupid mistakes and I admit that they were.

You don't like Schumacher, but every single mistake or hint of wrong doing and your at him like a cat to a knitted ball.

Always venom and hate, venom and hate...denial, kicking up old dust because you have personal issues towards specific drivers.

Let it go, what happened happened.

You would think, this being a tribute thread to Michael that people (who didn't like him), would leave the thread alone. But they came to cause trouble.

Go away.

No! I have been entirely consistent! Where is my distortion? I have stated my opinion and accept those of others. I do not slag off other members simply because they do not share my opinion of someone external to this forum. Are you saying I should not express my opinion?

On the other hand, and in contravention of this forum's own written rules, one particularly bigoted member continues to personalise comments as well as call another member who does not share the idolisation of his hero a "troll" and a "WUM".

Perhaps the underlying problem is deeper than the membership?

You are personalising this debate. Not me. If you state your opinion of Schumacher, I accept it. But when others (or myself) voice their contradictions to your hero, you do not accept it; and you promptly set about ridiculing their difference of opinion. This is antagonistic and does not help present a balanced view.

Forums are about debate and an exchange of opinion. I accept yours, although I disagree with it. Similarly, you ought to make an effort to become mature enough to accept that others may not share your view.

Cosi, I made this thread to tribute Michael. Not to debate about his career.

Cannot believe this thread has turned into what it has, if you have something negative keep it to yourself, or make a new thread please.

While not going as far as to make insults you do love to condescend for someone who goes on about not making things personal. As for "not sharing idolisation" well there's a difference between merely disliking a driver, and how you and Ernie talk about Schumacher. You dont have to like him let alone idolise him, but when you let your personal opinion of him cloud your judgement to the extent of posting such ridiculous things like "im just glad he hasn't killed anyone" it is only right that your opinion should be criticised.

Anyway i'd rather not derail this thread any further so ill leave it there.

So you just want a one sided thread which does nothing other than to massage your ego into thinking that everyone likes Michael and anyone who doesn't is wrong?

Shallow!?

This is a forum. As such, it is an exchange of opinion, regardless of the intentions of its author that this particular thread consist of one-sided adoration. It is not a 'Schumacher appreciation society' any more than it is one for Hamilton, Alonso, Vettel, me, him or you.

By responding in the manner you have, you Julius, are clearly derailing this debate further from what it appears EMSC wanted because your stated opinion that my opinion has "clouded my judgement", is itself inflammatory (as well as clearly debatable); and indeed, such a condescending manner towards me with "let your personal opinion of him cloud your judgement to the extent of posting such ridiculous things like…" would not appear to be helpful.

My apologies to you EMSC for feeling that I should respond to another personalised comment.

With such a sickeningly, sycophantic comment, you yourself are derailing this thread! Can't we keep on topic? This is a thread about Schumacher's final departure from F1 isn't it?

Can't you see EMSC, that ganging up against members who express a different opinion goes against the whole concept of debate? I seriously believe that you can see beneath the surface of this, even if someone else who really ought to know better would appear not to.

Care to remind yourself that before Julius intervened it was just me against you and Ernie.
Just give it up, have a rest with all the schumi bashing and Emsc bashing.

I really do not understand your first two lines there since that was not what i was saying at all. Yes i am aware that i have now contributed to the more than a little hostile turn this thread has taken i just felt that frankly you deserved to be challenged, but you are right that its not helpful so i apologie to Manny as well. Too make up for i will offer no counter arguments and try to get back on topic.

-----

With all the differences between his first and second careers i did find it nice that both Michael's "final races" consisted of driving through the field after a bad qualifying and early puncture.

I warmed to him these last two years after being distinctly unimpressed by his 2010, Still couldn't be called a fan but certainly a well wisher for his last few races at least.

I'll keep it short and simple: was never, and still isn't, a favorite of mine, but his achievements speak for themselves and it will be strange to finally see him gone from the sport. Also, it might not have been a win, but its a victory for you nonetheless, EMSC, to see Schumi score points in his final GP. Hope you enjoyed the moment <ok>

Thankyou. I appreciate this effort.

It was you who took issue with another forum member for stating his opinion that had nothing to do with you. I then stated my opinion about Schumacher, which again has nothing to do with you. You decided it should become a personalised crusade on behalf of your hero against those who do not share your adoration (in this case: Ernie and myself). Neither I nor Ernie were picking a battle with you. That was entirely your making.

I have never bashed you, EMSC. Indeed, as you know, I have stood up for and supported you as a valuable member of this little community on several occasions. The fact that we do not share a similar opinion about Schumacher should be irrelevant and never taken personally, despite your passion.

I'd like to add that I admire passion. Particularly when it is presented with balance and humility; as you have made great efforts to do for a long time.

From my perspective, these things are not personal. We are speaking of a public figure and there are bound to be differences of opinion in any balanced forum. And if a forum adopts a partisan approach to its moderation, as opposed to making a clear effort to accommodate differences of opinion, I'm out of here. And whilst you and/or others might like that, I personally think it would be a shame.

Now, back on topic…
I think Schumacher's final race was a good one. On this occasion he drove graciously and with a general respect for the drivers he is waving goodbye to. Apart from securing a good finishing position, he also showed real spirit and skill in some very good wheel-to-wheel action. I am therefore very pleased to say that he signed off in the best manner he could, and I liked the way he played his part in handing the reigns (in terms of the potential for more WDCs) to his fellow countryman.

For this performance, I congratulate him.

EMSC: I'm going to presume this is aimed at me.

I'll shake your hand when you demonstrate that you can really accept differing opinions about Schumacher, even when they are strong; and that you no longer take them so personally that you attack those who do not share your opinion.

Even if you are Ralf Schumacher and defending your brother, you must accept that everyone is entitled to their opinion. This goes for me, you, Ernie, Julius, ASChris, or anyone else, including HaakReaction – who, I'm sure even he will agree, exacerbated this latest fracas.
