Arsene Wenger is preparing a January swoop for Big John, rumoured to be in the region of £9M. It's a lot of dosh and I reckon, if true, we will accept.
Whoever comes in for him will have to part with a lot of dosh as he is contracted for five years and he is potentially England's number one after recent dodgy performances by Joe Hart. I wondered if either Arsenal or Liverpool would make an offer as both have the need of a top notch long term keeper to bring solidity to their team. Perhaps John's injury has come at a decent time. If he is out for a few weeks it may take him out of the limelight for a while!
Doubt it. If we're after a goalie it'll be am experienced one so as not to hinder szcesny's development. I think you guys can breathe easy considering we've also been linked with Charlie Austin and Stewart downing!
Why would we accept any money for a player who is one of the 'spine' of our team, who will keep us in the PL and the money? One thing is for certain; John won't want to go. And at this time of year there is a constant blanket of smoke without fire.
Well said gg, there was talk in the summer of PL wanting to take him to Villa and he openly stated he had no desire to leave the Canaries!
Same reaction! You'll be amazed at who we've been linked with. Only including goal keepers Reina Lloris! Vermeer Vorm Guitta Napoli gk..forget his name ...Ahh forget it ways too many!
Also, I don't know about Arsenal fans, but I really rate szczesny, and couldn't see Ruddy being guaranteed first team, which would merely harm his England career... Given his stance on clean sheets bonuses, he doesn't seem completely driven by money either.
Dave, wonky, help, tell me this thread is for having a good laugh at the ridiculous gossip circulating on the internet. I'm suffering an extreme case of déjà vu. A double of best malt would likely cure it.
This rumor has been hanging around for a while, but i really cant see it happening cause a) It would cost alot more than £9mil to prize him away considering how important he is to the team and club as a whole b) I can't see him leaving, seems the type who has his head screwed on properly and signing such a long term contract backs this up and c) could seriously harm his career at club and international level
I think it is robbie! Ruddy is a brilliant 'keeper and is having a fantastic season, how could we let him go? Sounds a lot like someone thinking 'Arsenal need a new 'keeper, let's pick one at random!' Don't worry about the alcohol, I'm on my third of the week (doesn't sound like a lot but when your body's been through the crap mine has been having a third in a week is very precious.
If we're to lose the part of the team's nucleus then anything less then £20 million would be an absolute insult. McNally has pointed out we're buying club not a selling club now, so hopefully he'll stick to those words.
Id be gutted to lose him, but £9m is a lot of money. We have a premier league quality keeper in Bunn and two of the hottest gk prospects in our ranks. I say (with regret) sell.
If a bid of 10 Million was made for him, I think we would be very tempted to sell. Especially when you look how much goalkeepers normally sell for and Mark Bunn doesn't look at all a bad deputy. Can't really see it happening to be honest, Wenger would get Lehmann out of retirement before spending that sort of money on a goalkeeper. Such a brilliant player, and hope there is no bids imminent in January around the region because I do think it would be a good offer.
Hang on a sec guys, Ruddy is English so why should we sell at £9mil, If every other club gets away with selling way over the odds for home talent then why should we not do it aswell! Ruddy is banging on the No.1 door of England and if Man City were to sell hart how much would they get for him?? Sorry Ruddy is by a mile the most inform keeper in the prem and if we were to consider selling then we should atleast be looking at 15-20mil for him...
If true and 9m is the figure, I'd pack him off myself and wave goodbye! Bunn seems a more than capable replacement in the short term at least and Declan Rudd has certainly looked the part when called upon, not to mention Jed Steer who has impressed too. Imagine what could be done with a 9m boost to the Jan warchest. Ruddy is great and is a good bloke too, but there is no room for sentiment in football and if selling him would be best for the club then so be it.
A good point, but does us staying up depend on us retaining JR? I don't think so, we have more than enough about us to be comfortable this season with or without him. Only thing I would say is that if JR was to go, would that send out the wrong kind of message to clubs that might be looking at our players? My only other thought is that if it is to happen it needs to happen as early in Jan as possible to give CH time to find a replacement (or new backup) and also time to use the cash on strengthening our squad.
