Stories of Mon offering his resignation, or leaving for personal reasons have now been touted about for 2 weeks now and still there is no official club statement to end the speculation or lies. Has he actually offered his resignation at any time, or are there family reasons he may want to leave? The club must offer a statement to quell the gossip ASAP, as failure to do so will only fuel the flames and add to the mounting uncertainty. There is an old saying that there is no smoke without fire and this isn't an isolated incident now. Instability is the fuel of failure and the players all read and participate in social media, so if they think there is a problem maybe it will effect their performances too. Come on Sunderland, make a statement.
Agreed if it was a one off report then just ignore it but, this is the second week that it has been said so there may be something in it. MON and SAFC need to sort it now and say either way.
Defo worried. Im fearing he may just be holding off leaving to give the club time to figure out a replacement. Possibly informed them of his intentions but carrying on for a short time to bide us some time.
This is my take on the situation as well. When I see how this team performed for the first 3 months under him, attacking like a well drilled army and scoring goals for fun (some of them the most spectacular strikes seen by a Sunderland team in many a year) then what has happened since, there is very obviously something not right at the club. Maybe the players have been told and this is where the leaks are coming from, unofficially of course. Mon wouldn't leave without someone being in place first to succeed him but maybe its all just bullshit. Either way, the club and Martin himself, need to address the speculation now because personally, the silence from club tells me there is more to this than meets the eye..
Yeah like u say its now not an isolated incident, rumours for a while and no smoke without fire. You'd hope if it was just paper talk or rubbish a simple statement from the board/MON would sort it out, no such statement seems imminent though so smacks of stalling to me. Hope im wrong.
Strikes me Cest that there may be an issue with his missus, this could explain rumors of less time aye the training park and his slightly troubled look of late. If it is that, all we can do is wish him all the best.
No smoke without fire I fear. Would hate it if he left, but these rumours are growing. What has this club got to do to have a period of stability and just a hint of sustainable success. I'm 54 now..I doubt it will be in my life time....Bugger
He hasn't got twitter, hope he goes though or he will relegate us. Last beat 11 men, 8 months ago. Sign of a club with massive problems.
AS said above he doesn't do twitter ****e so this is a bogus account anyway. However, I cant agree that this would somehow be a good thing. If he has to go because of his wife's illness then as said by Mons we can do nothing but wish him and his good lady well. If he isn't going and this is just another social media prank (probably by jealous bitter rivals) then I feel a statement to make a mockery pout of the rumours should be forthcoming asap. Give the man time to put his stamp on us with HIS players not Bruces flops and then judge him. The record isnt great admittedly but the man is and I just dont see one single credible alternative to him. Martinez - don't make me laugh. Avoided relegation on the last day of the season for 2 years ina row now and has bigger slumps than Mon and Bruce combined Ole Gunnar - not proven in this league and a title in a league that is 10 times weaker than the SPL is no big deal. Mark Hughes? FFS no. Di Matteo - can anyone tell me how he is a highly rated manger above the likes of MoN? He came into the Chelsea set up and basically allowed Terry and Lampard to run the thing? He pocketed a large amount of shut the **** up money from Roman and did nothing at all of substance. Is that what a good manager does? **** me he would be a disaster with our set of average plodders. Tell me one player he has bought that was any good (Abramovich picked the players for Chelsea). Who else? Some unheard of foreigner with no idea of the English game? I'll keep Martin O'Neill thank you so long as events out of all our control have not intervened. He is a proven entity and well capable of making a success here so long as he is given time to do so. BTW, he STILL hasn't been here a full year yet.
Di Matteo stabilized Chelsea, won the Champions League & FA Cup, and got them oot of a major slump to an almost respectable 6th. He also did 85% of the graft at WBA turning them from a yo-yo club to a team with some real guile & class, which Roy & Clarke have done a sterling job of keeping going, and reaped the rewards. He has an excellent managerial record. Martinez? Seriously Cest do you know how the Premier League works? Keeping a club like Wigan in the Premier League, with their budget, is akin to walking on water. They punch so far above their weight to stay their, and that is in no small part due to Whelan's ability to spot a manager with a bit of something. Why do you think that Villa, Liverpool & most tellingly Spurs were interested in his services? Everybody in football can see the man has something. If MON goes (which I don't fel he will or should right now) these 2 and Poyet simply leap out as the front runners. All 3 will play football.
Disagree totally mate. Lampard and Terry ran the dressing room and he was weak as piss in my eyes for letting them. The Champions League win was fluked and not deserved (you did watch the games didn't you). Makes him a walking disaster imo and if he was so good at WBA, why was he sacked? Mmmm! Martinez is **** all special either. Liverpool are a sinking ship that was looking for a cheap alternative to what they had and Spurs never took him seriously either (once they had spoken to him). He is the Kings clothes of managers who talks a good fight and sounds credible but in the end he delivers nowt for me. He would be perfect if fighting relegation is our only ambition but I've seen too many of those types of manager in my lifetime. MoN offers us far, far more but he needs time and support not constant speculation and criticism. It took Fergie 4 years to get it right at Man Utd and Moyes 6 years at Everton. Martin has been here less than 12 months. Give the bloke time as he is 10 times the manager the likes of Martinez or Di Matteo will ever be,
What about Gary Neville unproven yes but he always impresses me when i hear his comments on tele, seems to know what he's talking about. But would rather stick with MON.
Would rather have Boris Johnson than Gary boring little oik Neville kidda. Stick with the best man available and who will deliver if we allow him the time and support.
You don't 'fluke' a Champions League. They were out, and he went absolutely gung-ho and did the impossible v Napoli. He then got it tactically perfect over 2 legs against the Barca side many see as the best club side ever. He had fortune v Bayern, but he set the team up to contain the front 4 of great prowess, and they won. He then changed the shape of the side completely, brought in more attack minded players, and has a team of ferocious ability going forward, despite losing the incredible influence of Drogba & seeing Torres continue to labour. Believe me fella, the work Di Matteo has done at Chelsea will make whoever takes overs job a ****ing dream. Martinez is waiting for the right job, Tottenham expect a manager to stay out of transfer dealings, and that won't suit all. Who is your suggestion, bear in mind we ain't saying these people are 'better than MON', we are working under the possibility that he may have to leave, and as such will need to be replaced. Remember, once upon a time MON was at Wycombe and Leicester took a punt. This is not 'MON out', it's 'MON may have no choice' if it's his wife again.
Black Cats move swiftly to deny claims O'Neill offered to walk away after West Brom defeat By MATT FORTUNE PUBLISHED: 10:21 GMT, 25 November 2012 | UPDATED: 10:21 GMT, 25 November 2012 Sunderland have been quick to deny reports that manager Martin O'Neill offered his resignation in the wake of the club's home defeat to West Brom. The Black Cats, who have won twice in their last 20 Premier League games, were booed off by fans after suffering a 4-2 reverse against the in-form Baggies, leaving them just three points above the relegation zone. Martin O'Neill has not offered to quit Sunderland, say the club It was then claimed that the Northern Irishman, who has been in charge less than a year, had offered to end his three-year deal with the Weirsiders. But Sky Sports reported on Sunday morning that the club had told them O'Neill had 'unequivocally not resigned'. Speaking after Saturday's defeat, the 60-year-old seemed positive. He said: 'I think there’s a lot to take out of the match, a lot to take out of it. We have been beaten, but we look as if we can maybe get a goal again now, which is very encouraging. 'We have a big game on Tuesday night against QPR and we will try to get ourselves prepared for that.'
If Martin leaves for reasons other than football then Ellis Short has a massively difficult job imo. However, SSN are reporting that the club have completely denied these stories and stated that he is not going anywhere. Thus, we will not have that decision to make thankfully. BTW, football is all about opinions kidda and my opinion of both Di Matteo and Martinez are not too high at all. Doesn't make me right or you wrong but just means we have different ideas of where the club should be going. IMO, either of these two would be absolutely terrible appointments at SAFC but hey, if they did come and did well I'd be just as happy. That said, I'd be giving them both absolute ****e after 10 months if we were not top 10 and going for Europe (as some have about MoN after 10 months). I don't mean you btw but the culprits know who they are.
My feeling Cest is that we are turning the corner, 12 on target yesterday and their keeper was **** he was diving early or late and they were clipping him. A pen that never was, a great strike, and an uncharacteristic error from Mig, and it was just one of those days. We could just have easily have won 5-2. If we lose MON for reasons beyond football, then so be it, but I have seen enough last 3 weeks to say that even though it's not right yet, it's ok, and getting there.
