I got soaked to my skin in training on Thursday night. It was a nightmare...the shower I had afterwards was the best one I ever had.

Pissing down on the Mendips. We normally have different weather from the rest of you, so it proves the end of the world is nigh.

Here in Southampton it has been raining forever. That's what it seems like. It's reduced to a few spits and spots at the moment but every time I get my hopes up it starts bucketing done again.

I was going to give the bike a bit of TLC. If it could talk I'm sure it would tell me I've abandoned it. My poor old VFR. <wah>

Yeah, I commented on it in Lamb's Saturday Matches thread. Which just shows I'm still watching.

Trouble is Joe, they are talking about such small percentages that a spike of methane is going to flag up Earth borne contamination. I hope not though, that's really exciting.

Methane suggests the possibility of life. Flatulent cows anyone?

It would without a doubt be one for the history books. Just maybe not something the level of "Horrible Histories".

Finding methane could signify that there at least used to be life on Mars, because it is formed by the decay of organic matter, but tiny amounts could point to what TSS said.

Finding actual life is the dream, but it seems unlikely given the composition of Mars' terrain and atmosphere. Some scientists reckon it could be a "dead" planet, which may once have harboured surface water and possibly life millions of years ago. That would be an amazing discovery anyway, because it would prove once and for all that life can exist elsewhere in the universe, and shut creationists right up.

Well if it probably/possibly lived next door, pretty safe bet it existed elsewhere. But idiot creationism will expand to "yeah it's other places, God put it there too"

They'll have to rewrite the Bible if they want to keep taking it so literally.

Horrible Histories is a great series though, both the books and the tv programme.

I don't think every Christian takes the Bible quite so literally. I consider myself Christian but I'm fairly open-minded and I see no reason why science and faith need necessarily be at opposites. I don't think for example, the 6 days to create everything means 6 24-hour periods......
