yes - i don't remember us playing great football that season. Adel just put the gloss on some really solid, workmanlike performances. We also won a lot which generally makes you forget that the football isn't the finest. I think, when we've got going, patches of the football we've been served up this season are as good as i can remember if i'm honest.

be great to get a flukey 1 nil away at man u... Offside, handball own goal, 8 minutes into injury time, having been the only team in history to have 99% possession against it. 0 shots for, 36 against, 36 on target.

First 3 points of the season.

    oh yes.

Personally, I'm a Rednapp fan. You only have to look at what happened to West Ham after he left to see that he has the knack of bring through young players and he knows the game.
I dont care if he cant use a computer, fax or e-mail..this guy knows how to play the game.
yes, he's a "crim" but isnt that what we loved about el-tel. that personality and character that makes players want to play for him? Just keep him away from the accounts, cash and brown paper bags and we'll be ok
its a massive ask to expect him to keep us out of relegation, but, now we have the time to find our new long term manager who wil play our brand of "on the floor" football. Maybe we should speak to Holloway and send him to Spain for the rest of the season to watch them, or Sir Les or Parker or A.N.Other, but we have to bring in one of our own. No more ex-Chelsea/Man ure begginers who want to use us as a stepping stone. just a side thought, what ever happened to Jean Tigana after fulham. I loved his style?
We're never going to be a "big club" in the likes of Man Utd but we have the ability to become an established prem team ala Fulham, Stoke etc (sorry)

We now have the next 6 months to asses and "wine & dine" our new targets. Really hope the board get this one right!
TF / Beard have 1 decision to make. They got it wrong last time but lets hope they have learned from thier mistakes.

to those who dont want him, i would say that he's probably the only short term chance we have of getting out of this mess, although I personally feel that we may allready be relegated. I would also point out that none of the other offered up names eg Martinez etc have achieved anything of any note, with the exception of Di Matteo who won the CL with AVB's team and players.
I can find no reason to appoint anyone else to at this moment, although I really dont see rednapp as our long term solution. Give him and 18 month contract with the aim of establishing us in the prem. i think that would prob suit both parties.
So as a fan of "dodgy" Arry, I hope he comes and he'll have my full support, for whatever thats worth!
There is a light at the end of the tunnel guys...
    KEEP THE FAITH...!!

it'd be a miracle but by george it'd do the teams confidence a treat. if we can put it in the sort of performance we did against chelsea, really passing the ball about - who knows?

Yes well it will be a tough task for anyone, TF was too slow with Hughes whereas he was too fast with Colin, but there you go, we got a chance of staying up. But FFS we played the best football when we won the Championship since at least El Tel was Manager, and for me since 76. Sure we mixed in the grit, you need to to get out of that League, ask Colin!, but sometimes our football was sublime - Adel, Routledge, HH, Ismael, Mackie, Ale, Derry, Adel again and again, were heroes who provide the best memories in Years.

Sorry mate, but i dont agre with that. our football in the Championship was effective and devised to give a result. very rarely was it "our style" or "our" skill. It was basically a 1 man show. get the ball, give it to Tarbs and he can create. that was it.
Had a midfield that allowed him to do what he did (Derry .Ali) and if he lost it we could always get it back.
Most people remember it as great becaus e we were winning. Not the best I've seen. In fact i would go as far as to say that some of the football we've played this season, has been the best I've seen for years. Obviously not effective though as we havent won.
So it asks the question, Is better football all about winning or about the style you play?
And before others jump on me..I remember seeing Barcelona and Real lose this season..dont tell me that there football isn't good!

you've forgotten our Gerry Francis years - we played some really decent footy with Sir Les, Sinton, Impey et al. I remember going then and really believing we would / could win every game.

I think the best is a mix, 87 minutes of tappy tappy is boring, especially when its of the kind we played at our best this season, nearly all in our own half and midfield with few chances getting created, and nothing coming from our defensive widemen - ineffective. 87 minutes of Stoke football is even worse. Mix up the possession football with a few occasional long balls, swift counter attack, all with solid defense, and I find it much better to watch and usually wins more games, which is a f*kkin big help sure! Like we were when we won the Championship.

Ok, I have a spare for boxing day too but I doubt you can get your misses to agree to that! We could sort out the tickets and petrol and it would be cheaper for the both of us. Villa and WBA def available currently.

The Rs were the best team in London in the early 90s, Oslo, playing some pretty good stuff under Francis. Warnock did what was necessary to get out of the Championship, I agree. I also made your "sublime" point further up. I offer no apologies, however, if, as much as I enjoyed seeing the Rs win that league, there were many occasions when I found the style somewhat...er, tedious. Just me, i guess.

For Christ's sake Ozzie. In fits and bursts that season, our football was sublime but more often than not it was diabolical. How in the hell you could say that it was better than our early nineties teams is beyond me.

    It was fu*king dreadful!

These two posts are quality and reflect my feelings on todays events.

Your a twat and no-one cares what you have to say. Your posts are rubbish and full of angry bitterness. If I were ever to buy you a drink it would be a saucer of milk! Now then, tuck your claws away and **** off back to your own boring bored.

The length of contract offered to our Harry is neither here or there. Nor is the appropriatness of his appointment. As things stand, there is no manager who is in gainful employment outside of the Prem who would take up the reigns. Of those calling for a younger manager for the long term, of course I agree. But that was before we find the position we are now in. The only candidates available are those that are without a club at present.

For me there is only one option, and we have got him. In the past I have agreed with SB's take on Redknapp, but on reflection I now think he is the right man in the right place at the right time. All I want him to do is to try and keep us up. That is all we can hope for in our present predicament. No more no less. The long term plans have set sail six weeks ago.

The 'He is only here for the money.' doesn't sit right with me either. The man has millions and along with his son and daughter in law are sitting on one of the largest Euro-Millions wins a family can only dream of. The spend spend spend in January theme running throughout this thread is also a myth. He has already stated that he doesn't need to bring in new signings en-masse. The club has had enough of that. He might need to bring in players as is necessary but not for the sake of it. He has also said he might add the odd on-loan signing if needed.

Harry is the man for the job, he will get us playing football again. He will make us excited about our club again. He may keep us up, although I don't personally think anyone can now. But if he starts getting results ..by the love of christ .. will we be singing his name.

    If anyone can....Harry can.
