Aye he started at Boro tho, played a couple of games and they sold him on, albeit as a youngster. How old is he now? I would check but can't be arsed

Since joining Carlisle in 2007, and subsequently Watford, he's played 176 games and scored 67 goals. He's 26.

Smalling is from some non-league team to Fulham. So not really from the Championship, but everyting else is a fair point. Would like Shane Long and Jimmy Kebe if Reading don't go up.

Nathan Dyer from Swansea as cover on the wing? Looks sharp whenever I watch him.

Smalling didn't come from the Championship, he came from Fulham, and before that he was at Maidstone

Been impressed with Ashley Williams for a couple of seasons now. Reckon he could make the step up and would be a good signing.

Just checked google images but im not entirely sure, did he pretty much single handedly stop us winning a match last season while carrying a knock as well? Im sure its the bloke im thinking of and remember at the time when we played against him thinking he was great. Saying that, thats the only game I've seen him in.

Wouldn't mind Long or Whickham to come in for the right price along with someone like Sow or Gamerio. I wouldn't want to pin or hopes on one striker who stepping up to this league.

All but Cahill, Williams and Wickham, had/have played in Premier League before making their move to an established EPL club. Hardly makes them "Gems of the Championship". A gem of the lower leagues would be someone like Jermaine Beckford, who never played EPL football before his move to Everton. Cahill even had the FA Cup as his grand stage, the reason he got a move really.

    Lescott in 2003/04 with Wolves
    Smalling in 2008/10 with Fulham
Jagielka in 2006/07 with Sheff Utd
    Long in 2006/08 with Reading
Bothroyd in 2004/08 with Blackburn and Charlton
    Taarabt in 2007/10 with Tottenham

Yet another terrible article from marknufc and the journos

Don't think I saw that game to be honest but I have seen him half a dozen times on tv and he has been excellent every time. From reviews I've read he is considered to be the main reason why Swansea have had one of the best defensive records in the championship the last two seasons. They also tend to leak goals when he isn't playing (was injured for a while last season).

Im certain it was Williams, remember us being pretty much out played but he dealed with alot of the stuff lumped up to our forwards. Could be another Mike Williamson though, very good at Championship, quite average at Prem league.

Like you say there is always a risk that lower league players don't manage the step up. He is more athletic than Willo though and I think he reads the game well so personally I'd give him a better chance of cutting it based on what i've seen. But i've been proved wrong before ... ;)

He could be worth a go if its only a couple of million, nowt wrong with having three average CB's battle for a place alongside Colo anyway :D
