If you were given the opportunity, would you manage Leicester City (other clubs fans are welcome to join in, with the obvious caveat that this applies to your own club and not Leicester City, so don't post yeah I'll manage Leicester into the ground) At first it sounds brilliant leading the lads out and I expect the majority of you to jump at the chance, BUT only you know your own football knowledge, we are talking about the club you love here - Have you got the skill, leadership and tactical astuteness to make a success of it. If you haven't the team you love will quickly nosedive, the fans will hiss at the very mention of your name and relegation would be an almost certainty, but if you have wouldn't it be brilliant.
Yh. Just like I did on football manager I would turn them into the richest and best team in the world. We would have all the best players and have the best academy system in the world. I eagerly await Tops call
Apparently that's not as outrageous as you think - There is a thread on the Hull board in which a 21 year old lad has been appointed to manage a real club based on his Football Manager achievements - I personally would be quite nervous if Top appointed a manager with only a computer game on his CV
Wasn't that a club in Azerbaijan? Without making too much of a sweeping statement it's not as though he is in charge of a big club, they are probably the similar size to Barrow Town
Yes I believe it was something like that - Still got the job though Anyway - Would you be King of Portman Road?
I think based on Football Manager experience I would fancy my chances but I think the Leicester job in particular is a tricky one. A lot of good players, with reputations and good wages so I think there would be a lot of expectation and therefore promotion would be considered a job well done and anything else a failure so it's a daunting job for most people... Even if they have taken Barnet to the Premier league and won a league cup
It is an Azerbaijani club - FC Baku. And the lad beat Jean-Pierre Papin to the job. He's confident that he can lead the club to the Europa League. Bless him. In reply to the OP, I suspect that I would be a useless manager. Mind you, if Paul Jewell can get a job in football there's hope for me yet!
I think our previous manager (Hull) Barmby is a good example of this. It was his home team and was special to him which is why i think it took so long for him to work out if he wanted the job.
I already have on FIFA 13. Did 5 years, won the lge x4, FA cup x3 & the champs lge x1 (inc 2x dbl´s & 1x trb). Mind you it did help having RVP, Messi, Ashley Cole, Hummels, Raus, Ba & Ronaldo in my squad. Those were the years.
A difficult one. Take the job and (lets be honest, we all would) **** up. or Don't take the job and live a life of regrets and what ifs.
Its always easier as and outsider looking in to see problems at other clubs and to sort them. When its your own club your biased and sometimes blind to somethings If I was offered the job I would take it obviously, in the short term it could be good but in the medium to long term it would be a disaster I remember when we got relegated and Ian Holloway got sacked Steve Walsh and even Jobber I think applied for the job and Milan said he would take all applications seriously. Thank fully Lee Hoos did 1 thing right and recommended Nigel for the job
Could you imagine if Walshy took the job and failed miserably? So glad he didn't, much prefer him to be a legend of ours
Yeah I remember Bryan Gunn taking Norwich down. He is a legend there but in the end their fans turned on him. It was a bit like Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool last season. Loyalty clouds your judgement. On being the manager I would imagine alot of us would take the Martin Allen scouting system. Keep on eye out for players off youtube
Money wise I think we would Jump at the Chance to be a manager. But to appoint me would lead to certain Relegation ...
I'd be terrible at all aspects of it and would change the starting 11 every time we lost, but could use the money
Id probably do alright, i have managed an U8s team, helped out at a scouts team who were awful getting them to the final, taken primary school sports and am an FA trained coach. With that background, id probably look to youth...
But managing under 8s is totally different to managing ego's like Matt Mills, Jermaine Beckford, Gelson Fernandes and Michael Johnson. That was what Nigel was up against when he came here. We would have either let them run wild or come down on them like a ton of bricks and pissed off half the squad As I said short term I think having a fan as a manager might not be a bad idea as long as you have decent players but after 5-6 matches then you will be screwed when the player realise you really dont have an idea what you are doing and the opposition read you like a book
