Disgraceful, yet not unexpected from Lazio Ultras. I hope everyone makes a full recovery. http://www.metro.co.uk/news/918673-urban-warfare-as-spurs-fans-stabbed-by-lazio-ultras-in-rome
indeed. it's almost like something from the 1980s, but like you say, there is always an element of thugs out there, Rome teams being notorious.
Nothing will happen - small fine, slapped wrist, "you naughty boys" thing ...... UEFA are useless when it comes to stuff like this.
Two thoughts: 1) Their own fault for not being more cautious. 2) As a club yourselves, if not mistaken, who would have entered Europe in the 80s were it not for a blanket ban on English club sides - isn't there an argument for banning all Italian clubs?
bit harsh on the spurs lads seeing as they were targeted by an ultra group, although were it me, i would not go to rome to watch my club because of the risks like that. and yes, italian clubs probably should be banned from european football. this is hardly an isolated incident, especially in rome, but nothing will happen to them. all english clubs were tarred with the same brush. was that right? probably not but it made english football sort itself out (eventually, although i'd argue hillsborough REALLY sorted us out). maybe italian football needs to be booted out for a few years to get their house in order.
wtf, how can it be the spurs fans fault? from what i have read they were just drinking in a bar causing no trouble, that's what the bar owner has told the media.
They only get touchline bans for match fixing. So this kind of might equate to missing lunch for a week.
Canary Max, I'm not implying they caused this at all, but for their own safety they were extraordinarily unwise to be out drinking that late before the game the next day.
true. on the flip side, they were in the one of the largest squares in the city, so you'd have thought should have been relatively safe. where were the police.
1.30 in Rome is not fecking late: jesus wept. The reverse situation would be "A bunch of people drinking but not drunk in covent garden were attacked by a bunch of twats from a london club" Would that be unwise? Would that be unsafe? Any implication that the spurs fans were somehow culpable/unwise is ludicrous.
Its a joke. I'm half Jewish myself. Italian thugs stabbing Tottenham fans and calling them Jews in a bar called the Drunken Ship in Rome while waiting for a meaningless game of football. You have to laugh at the fcuked up world we live in.
Hilarious and could never have been construed in any other way than a joke on a thread entitled thoughts with tottenham fans
I would say longsight doesn't understand the Jewish sense of humour about themselves! A good look into the depths of this is "An Anthology of Jewish Humour" by Isaac Asimov! It really impresses me how, with all they have been through and are still going through, they have never lost the art of seeing the funny side to anything!
Not at all, it is simply the case that it is somewhat more difficult to convey irony and sarcasm in the written form. Furthermore that there is sensitivity to statements that can be misconstrued as a form of bigotry. Once people have to get into explaining what was meant by such statements, often the damage is already done as offence has already been caused, even when none was intended.
