15th, 5 places below QPR! The guy is so clueless it's a joke, although I'm shocked he managed more than a sentence about us. However, the tradeoff in that is a bunch of ****ty clichés; "Berba this, Berba that, he's usually brilliant but Fulham lost last week so that means he's lazy. Hangeland is out and he'll be missed because he's the only one I've heard of apart from the ginger bloke who used to play for Liverpool. Oh yeah, they're **** away as well aren't they." Get the guy out!
Journalism in BBC has a different meaning these days... Speculation and imagination seem to be the attributes!!!
Agreed- they seemed to have moved toward 'opinions' and 'personalities' rather than just football analysis. I think Neville on Sky has shaken up the world of punditry- his insight is excellent and he clearly thinks a lot about the game, tactics and is open to evolution. Neville isn't a personality as such, really, because the majority of what he says is rooted in demonstrable evidence- he is just telling you how it is on the pitch. If Neville wanted to be a personality he would follow the BBC route and just say things for the hell of it and to get a reaction. Pat Nevin is another who I think is quite good. I can't understand why they don't take more advantage of all the technical data that is available. Clubs have technical specialists who analyses match performance- why not try poach one or two and get some unknown who has spent years actually studying patterns of play etc.. rather than the last England number 9 who talks in cliches. I think the football audience is more savvy these days with a better understanding of the tactical side of the game- look at how well Football Manager sells! I wish they would talk to us like adults instead of filtering coverage through moronic ex-players- I had hopes that MOTD 2 (or even 3) would have more on the technical side, but no- they are just an extended jolly. I've stopped watching the punditry section- just record it and fast forward through- or just use Daily Mail with yahoo highlights.
Totally agree about Neville Silky, he's a revelation. Shame he's a Man United legend, so he gets all sorts of hate from fans of a lot of clubs purely for that.
Last week Lawro said 'Fulham are improving away from home, which is important given their home form is particularly good' This week, 'I'm still not convinced by Fulham's away form' Absolute muppet.
Completely agree with all the comments about the MOTD current set up. The hierarchy obviously realised that the highly paid laggards of Hansen, Lawrenson and Shearer were losing audiences but the revamped 'Breakfast Time' format isn't working either. Time to get 'back to basics'. A peronal preference is the 5Live 'Monday Club' where the likes of Motty, Nevin and Claridge at least say something meaningful. Talking of Motty he was quite complimentary about us today, in his review of the Stoke game : Here is the full article: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20374632
Completely agree. Neville is brilliant and I really enjoy listening to him. Claridge is great and also Nevin who comes across as someone who understand how to put the technical side into more understandable terms. Apparently Dowie is very good when it comes to this but he doesn't get much chance to do it. Of course, the BBC's big two summer signings are no longer unemployed - well Mick McCarthy definitely has a job and "Ary most likely will have by Monday afternoon - so we will still be stuck with the Bozo's.
I think it wasteful to vent any spleen on this man. That he could have us 15th as a result of his predictions vs 10th for QPR says it all.
At least we'll be last on MOTD, so we won't get any more silly punditry. We lost by the odd goal, yet still had more shots on-target. A game to forget, just like the Sunderland match which gave us the injuries and Brede's suspension. Roll-on Xmas with a full squad
Here is an excellent article by Michael Cox in the Guardian, comparing the pundits on TV and why MOTD is falling short - http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/nov/27/gary-neville-punditry-sky-bbc?CMP=twt_gu
Superb article, cheers C58. Agreed with the loss of Lee Dixon, MOTD has gone downhill. Get Shearer off! And a bit of midweek nonsense from The Bollock To be fair, this is one of his better efforts. But it still rests on his favourite cliché - we're away, so we'll lose!
The 'Bollock' hasn't announced his predictions for Saturday yet. However in anticipation, the trustworthy Cottage Chickens have gone for a Fulham win.
He has got you guys down for a draw, which in all fairness I fancy too. A couple of shocking predictions though, Arsenal to win 2-0 at home to Swansea, seems suspect West Brom to draw at home to Stoke, really Man City to lose at home 2-1 to Everton, can't see it and QPR to win 2-1 at home, I bloody hope so. Should be good for you guys to get Demps and Dembele back tomorrow, my FFC season ticket holder mate is looking forward to giving 'don't tread' some stick. Hopefully you can make their return pointless
That's it then - rock solid 3 points for the boys - the chickens are never wrong and have an infinately better record than Lawro
I'd love to think the chickens are on to something, but I'm not optimistic about this one. I'd be very happy with yet another draw.
Disapppointingly, I'll take a draw if offered. Given the consequences of the Sunderland match on our recent team selections. However, ever hopeful of a 2-1 win. C O Y W !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That point away to Fulham would put Spurs on 29 points and 6th place in the Table, according to Lawro's predictions. In reality, a win on Saturday would put Spurs on 26 points with a sporting chance of fourth in the Table if West Brom lose to Stoke City... Mark Lawrenson's Premier League Predictions for 2012-13
Brilliant, a nice tribute to Spurs with a mention of Berbatov FC. To be fair, the first paragraph is above and beyond for Lawro, so he deserves a pat on the back for managing that.
